CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRL’S GOLF FINISH EIGHTH AT THE BEMIDJI INVITATIONAL

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team continues to improve as they turned in their best round of the year while shooting a 403, good for a tie for eighth place out of 14 teams at the Bemidji Invitational at the Bemidji Town and Country Golf Club.  Brainerd won the meet with an impressive 322, nine strokes better than Detroit Lakes.

Crookston was led again by Joslynn Leach who shot her best score of the season with an 87. She had six pars and nine bogeys along with three double-bogeys on the day for a solid 15-over par.  “She likes the back nine and started out with a 43 and felt pretty good about that. She left a few strokes out there, but she was fairly pleased,” said Pirate Coach Jeff Perreault. “She felt much better about her score today than she did in Roseau.”

Sophia Rezac continues to play well with her second-straight sub-100 round while shooting a 99.  Sophia had three pars and six bogeys on half of the holes she played.  “It is a solid score and this is her second time under 100,” said Coach Perreault. “She said she had at least a couple of four puts so she was disappointed with that, but overall she had another solid round and our goal for her is to get under 95 and she will do it soon.”

Hannah Brouse had the third-best score for the Pirates while shooting a 104.  She had one par in the round. “Her biggest struggle today was off the tee,” said Coach Perreault. “She made up for her tee box struggles with great play around the green.  She was chipping and putting well and we are hoping to get her under 100 soon.”

Grace Fischer shot a 113 and Georgia Sanders shot a 118 in their first varsity meet at the Town and Country Club.  “Being it was the first time on this course with it being an intimidating course and an intimidating meet with so many teams, and great players competing, they did great,” said Coach Perreault. “I thought they handled it very well and overall for a first-round here we were happy with what they posted.”

Overall, Coach Perreault and the Pirate golfers were pleased with their round. “Today was our best overall score so far this season so it was a good day for the girls,” said Coach Perreault. “We are going to make sure the scores keep going in the right direction and the girls have been working hard to cut their scores.”
