The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team finished in a tie for fourth place out of 18 teams at the Park Rapids Invitational played at the Headwaters Golf Course in Park Rapids. Detroit Lakes won the event in convincing fashion with a 326, 47 strokes better than runner-up East Grand Forks. Medalist honors belonged to Shelby Busker of Detroit Lakes with a one over par 73.
Crookston was led by Dani Boyle again, this time she shot an 88. Dani finished sixth place individually. “She golfed well and she actually left a few strokes out on the course,” said Pirate Coach Jeff Perreault. “I am excited for her because she is golfing well and with the lack of practice that we have had on a course she should be able to continue to improve.” Joslynn Leach shot a 93 to complete the two Pirates that turned in sub-100 scores. “Joslynn had a good round today and finished in the top 10,” said Coach Perreault. “She had a few holes that hurt her, but overall she had a solid round today.”
The fourth-place team finish in an 18 team field was a good finish for the Pirates. “The girls were saying the greens were fast and the course was in great shape and made it through the winter and as the day went along they got better,” said Coach Perreault. “They really golfed well today on a good course. We haven’t had much time on a course so far this spring and I am excited to see the improvement the girls can make before tournament time.”
Crookston will travel to the Moorhead Invitational on Tuesday at the Meadows Golf Course.
