CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRLS SOCCER SHUT OUT BY ALBANY

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team had a tough time shutting down the Albany attack. Savana Pelzer nabbed a hat trick in the match and Crookston could not capitalize on their chances, as they would fall by a score of 3-0.

FIRST HALF
The first five minutes of the game saw even play before Albany started to put pressure on the Pirate goal. At the ten-minute mark, Albany’s Savana Pelzer would break away on what the Pirates thought was an offsides call, but the whistle was never blown and Pelzer would find the back of the net to give Albany a 1-0 lead. To make matters worse, Reese Swanson was injured on the play and did not return to the game, meaning that it was up to Cassie Solhiem to come in for relief.
Crookston began to feel the lack of Solhiem’s offensive output in the middle of the first half. The Pirates were only able to get two shots on goal, and they would head into the half down 1-0.

SECOND HALF –
Pelzer would make her presence immediately, as one minute into the half she would score he second goal of the game off of a breakaway and Albany further their lead to 2-0. Crookston were playing back and not created space or opportunities. It would affect them again, as just eight minutes after her second goal, Pelzer would complete the hat trick off of a through ball and she would bury it to put Albany up 3-0.
After the 55th minute Crookston started to play better as a team. Maddie Harbott and Joslyn Wallace in particular were all over the field as center midfielders. Crookston did manage to quadruple their shot output in the second half, getting a total of eight. The Pirates were unable to capitalize on their improvements and put one in the back of the net. Albany cruised the rest of the way, winning the match 3-0.

Crookston falls to 3-4-1 on the season and heads to Bemidji on Tuesday. Albany improves to 7-1.

The JV did not play. The Varsity was supposed to play a double-header, but their game against Melrose was canceled.
