CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRLS SOCCER SHUT OUT BY BEMIDJI

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team had a bad start and Bemidji scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the game and never looked back on their way to a 7-0 victory in a conference matchup played in Bemidji.

FIRST HALF –
Bemidji came out strong and scored three goals in the first 15 minutes, in a six-minute span, to take a quick 3-0 lead. Lauren Berg had an assist on the first goal before scoring the next two goals. “It was a tough 15 minutes to start,” said Pirate Coach Sarah Reese. “They had strong passing, runners crashing the net, and a deep bench.”
Crookston picked up their defensive effort the rest of the half and didn’t give up a goal in the final 25 minutes of the half and trailed 3-0. “I thought we ended the first half strong,” said Coach Reese.

SECOND HALF –
Bemidji started the scoring five minutes into the second half when Lauren Berg scored her third goal for a natural hat trick and a 4-0 Lumberjack lead. Only six minutes later, Berg scored her fourth goal of the game for a 5-0 lead. Crookston picked up the defensive pressure again and Bemidji didn’t score again until 14 minutes later when Sydney Breyen scored her first goal of the game. Three minutes later, or with 12 minutes left in the game, Bemidji’s Anna Renn scored her first goal and the Lumberjacks coasted the rest of the game for a 7-0 victory. “While we played well for chunks of the game, their depth and composure hurt us,” said Coach Reese. “We missed our injured players and our team is working hard to be successful together.”

Crookston drops to 3-5-1 on the year and will host Fergus Falls Hillcrest in a big Section 8A matchup on Thursday. A game you can hear on KROX Radio. Bemidji improves to 3-3-1 on the year.
