CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRLS SOCCER SHUTOUT BY HILLCREST ACADEMY

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team played a great defensive game, but could not put one in the net as they fell to Fergus Falls Hillcrest Academy by a score of 1-0.

FIRST HALF
Crookston began the match with an early possession advantage. The Pirates kept it on the Hillcrest side of the field and they were able to get multiple shots on goal. Hillcrest had a few opportunities as well, but Cassie Solheim, who was playing in relief of Reese Swanson for the third straight game, was up to the task and made three saves. When it wasn’t Solheim making saves, it was Josyln Wallace playing great defense to limit the shots that Hillcrest took. Despite having good looks and shots on goal, most of Crookston’s shots went right to the keeper. Both teams went into halftime with the score still tied at 0-0.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston began the second half with continued pressure on the Hillcrest goal. Keona Arnold was one of the Pirates playing well offensively as she consistently checked back for the ball and worked hard to create scoring opportunities. The Pirates were able to get an additional five shots on the goal in the second half, but none of them went in.
It was Hillcrest breaking through in the 55th minute to score the only goal of the game. Ava Lindgren broke away on the left side of the Crookston goal, took the shot, and slipped it past Solheim on the right side of the goal. Crookston played tough defense for the rest of the half, as Hillcrest only were able to get four shots. The Pirate offense missed Solheim’s contributions and could not get anything going for the rest of the game as Hillcrest hung on for the 1-0 win.

Crookston falls to 3-6-1 on the season and heads to Hibbing next Friday. Fergus Falls Hillcrest Academy improves to 1-8-1.
