PIRATE GIRLS SWIMMERS TURN IN SOLID PERFORMANCES AT FOSSTON

The Crookston Pirate Girls Swim team competed at the Fosston-Bagley duals.
Perham beat Crookston 59-34 and Fosston-Bagley beat Crookston 66-26.

Crookston had two first-place finishes with Madison Hoiland winning the 50 Yard Freestyle with an impressive time of 27.72 and she also won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:18.39.  “Madison hasn’t been around the 27-second mark this early in the season so it was nice to see she is having that fast of times this early in the season,” said Pirate Coach Marley Melbye.

Fallon Johnson finished second in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:44.96 and the Pirate 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Fallon Johnson, Mackenzie Aamoth, Claire Oman and Madison Hoiland.  “Fallon had an awesome 500 freestyle today.  She put a great race together and had a good time for this early in the season, so that was nice to see,” said Coach Melbye. “We tested out the 400 Freestyle relay rather than the 200 freestyle and the girls rose to the challenge and the girls looked solid and strong.  Those girls are more geared to distance races and they had a good time.”

Crookston turned in some of their fastest times of the season in the meet.  “It was a good meet with three similar teams so it was nice to have some good competition.  We had a lot of good races tonight,” said Coach Hanson.  “The girls are finding their competitive edge and seeing some successes early in the season.”
