HOILAND AND AAMOTH LEAD PIRATES AT UND HIGH SCHOOL SWIM MEET

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Swimming team’s Madison Hoiland had an impressive day with two first-place finishes and the Pirates finished fifth place at the University of North Dakota High School Girl’s Swimming Meet. Jamestown won the meet with 454 points, 30 points better the Grand Forks Central.

The Pirates had a lot of solid performance again from Madison Hoiland with first-place finishes in the 50 Freestyle with a season-best time of 27.39 and another first-place finish in the 100 Breastroke. “She had a great meet today and swam against people she hadn’t seen before and that seemed to get her fired up for her races,” said Pirate Coach Marley Melbye. “She came out strong in the 100 breaststroke and worked on getting ahead at the beginning of the race and she did that and swam a very solid race. In the 50 she was seeded first and she was hungry to prove she deserved the seed and had a great race.  She fuels off of people and the energy around her so it was fun to see her compete like she did today.” Hoiland was also a part of the fifth-place 200

Mackenze Aamoth continues to improve with a third-place finish in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:21.35.  She also had a seventh-place finish in the 100 Backstroke.  “Mackenze keeps getting stronger and we have been working on kicking a ton the last few weeks so she is stronger and it shows,” said Coach Melbye. “She is giving it her all and working hard on getting stronger and we have been working on her technique and giving it her all off the wall and she did that today.”

Claire Oman had a ninth-place finish in the 200 IM. “She had a good meet today. Her 200 IM was really good,” said Coach Melbye.  “She cut six seconds off her time from a week ago and all the work on her technique is paying off.”

Overall, the Pirates were pleased with their performance and had fun swimming against some different teams. “I think it causes the girls to think a little more when we swim against different teams and they had some great times and we saw a lot of improvement and that is the goal,” said Coach Melbye. “I was pleased with how the girls swam today and they are adapting to what we are working on.”
