CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRLS SWIMMERS FALL SHORT IN LOSS TO PARK RAPIDS

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Swimming team had some solid races, but the talented and deep Park Rapids Panthers pulled away to win 135-45 in a dual at the Crookston Community Pool.  “We knew Park Rapids was strong and they were good across the board,” said Pirate Coach Marley Melbye. “But, we had some really good swims too.”

It was senior and parents night and the two seniors on the team, Madison Hoiland and Claire Oman didn’t disappoint in their final home swim meet.  Hoiland won the 50 freestyle with an impressive performance and she was eight-hundredths of a second away from a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. “She was able to pull the 50 free off by the hair of her chin, and looked strong in the race,” said Coach Melbye. “She was so close and was out-touched, but she did some great things in the 100 breaststroke.”  Claire Oman had a solid fourth-place performance in the 200 meter IM with a time of 3:17.98 and she also finished fourth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:05.71. “Claire cut three seconds off her 500 time, so that was great,” said Coach Melbye. “She looked great tonight.”  The two seniors were also on the second place 200 medley relay team and the third-place 200 freestyle relay.

Mackenzie Aamoth had a solid meet with an exciting first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, edging the runner-up by 15-hundredths of a second. “That is one of the best races I have seen Kenzie swim in a long time,” said Coach Melbye. “She found that next gear and she looked fantastic in the water.”  She was also on the second place 200 Medley Relay, and the third-place 200 Freestyle relay.

The Pirate 400 Freestyle relay team improved their time with a second-place finish.  “They cut more time off and it is nice to have a 400 freestyle relay team and they are getting used to swimming it and improving every time,” said Coach Melbye. “Lily Groven was tossed in the 100 butterfly and she looked good in that.  Abby Olson was thrown into the 100 IM and she had a great performance there.  The girls are working on getting their personal best and a lot of them did that today and that is great to see.”

Crookston will be back in action on Tuesday, September 28 at Warroad when they take on Warroad/Roseau/BGMR.
