The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team played multiple long matches and had great rallies but fell one win short as they dropped the match to the Perham Yellowjackets by a score of 4-3 at Crookston High School on Thursday afternoon.
Crookston was locked into seven competitive matches throughout the day. The doubles matches went by the quickest, with the third doubles pair of Katie Seaver and Catelyn Maruska only dropping three games en route to a 6-2, 6-1 win. Perham got a win in second doubles over Sylvia Christensen and Avery Mathews, but the first doubles pair of Kaylen Bedard and Nora Groven got the upper hand in the end, as they came back to win the first set, then cruised to win the second, helping Crookston go 2-1 in doubles.
In singles, Lauren Tull was in complete control in first singles, winning 6-1, 6-2 while her opponent played through a heel injury. The other three singles matches finished in just under or just over two hours. Brigit Groven in third singles had multiple rallies extend beyond thirty shots, and though she won a few of them, she fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. In fourth singles, Haddie Halland played a solid match but was broken late in each set, falling 6-3, 6-3. Ella Capistran was playing in the longest match of the day in second singles. The teams each had three wins apiece, and after being down 4-0 in the second set, Capistran fought back to 4-3. Unfortunately, Lillianha Kletke won the final two games, winning the match 6-4, 6-3, and that gave Perham a 4-3 team victory.
Crookston drops to 5-9 on the season and will play EGF on Monday. Perham is now 10-7 on the season.
