The defending Section 8A Champion Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team kicked off the 2024 season in Park Rapids on Friday, but they were rained out in the first match, and the rest of the matches were canceled due to rain.
CROOKSTON VS MINNEWASKA AREA –
Minnewaska had a great start to the match and won the first four individual matches.
Minnewaska’s Olivia Danielson beat Crookston’s Ava Martin 6-3, 6-0 at third singles. In the fourth singles match, Lakers Kaylen Blair beat Emelia Hoerner 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
The two doubles matches that were completed were at second doubles as Minnewaska’s Rachel Rankin and Addy Heid beat Ashlyn Bailey and Logan Brekken 6-0, 4-6, and 10-5.
Minnewaska also won the third doubles match with Makenna Uhde and Katie Sorenson, beating the Pirates’ Mady Anderson and Mariah Overgaard 6-1, 7-5 to technically win the match with four wins.
The matches that were still being played when the rain stopped play were at first singles, with Crookston’s Kaylie Clauson losing the first set 6-2. At second singles, Paige Abrahamson lost the first set 6-3 and was trailing in the second set 3-1.
The first doubles team for the Pirates, Addie Fee and Georgia Sanders, had a 5-4 lead in the first set when the match was called.
The final two matches of the day were canceled.
