The Crookston Pirate Softball team had their struggles against the East Grand Forks Green Wave, as they lost two games to them on Tuesday, with a 13-0 score in game 1 and a 15-0 score in game 2.
FIRST INNING-
Crookston got a one-out walk from Madi Bruggeman in the 1st inning, but Karlee Walsh struck out three batters to end the inning.
In the home half, after a groundout, EGF got a walk for their first baserunner. Then, after a force play at second, back-to-back walks loaded the bases. However, they couldn’t come through, as Ally Wagner got Elli Dumas to fly out to center field, ending the inning and leaving the bases loaded.
SECOND INNING-
In the 2nd inning, the Pirates got a leadoff walk from Peyton Demerais, but a strikeout and two groundouts quickly eliminated any potential threat in the inning.
In the home half, EGF took advantage of a lot of free bases. A dropped third strike and a single put two on, and then after a strikeout, a walk loaded the bases. Wagner would then walk in a run, making it 1-0 Green Wave, and Walsh came up next, doubling in two, making it 3-0. A passed ball would then make it 4-0 EGF, another passed ball would then make it 5-0, and after a strikeout and a walk, a third passed ball would score the final run of the inning, making it 6-0 Green Wave at the end of 2 innings.
THIRD INNING –
Emily Bowman recorded the only hit of the game in the 3rd inning for the Pirates, doubling to right-center field with one out. However, she would be stranded there, as a strikeout and groundout would end the inning.
In the home half of the 3rd inning, Madalyn Johnson led things off with a single. After an out, a hit by pitch and a walk would load the bases. But, Wagner for the second time in this game would make EGF leave the bases loaded, as a force play at the plate and a popout would end the inning.
FOURTH INNING-
Crookston got a one-out walk from Demerais, the only Pirate in this game to reach base twice, in the 4th inning, but Walsh locked things down from there, getting three quick outs to end the frame.
The Green Wave offense returned with a vengeance in the bottom of the 4th. Back-to-back errors put runners on the corners, and an RBI single would make it 7-0. Another RBI single, this time by Johnson, would make it 8-0, and a third one in a row upped the lead to 9-0. A sac fly would be the first out of the inning, but make the score 10-0. After a walk put two on, a base hit to left made it 11-0, but another run would score on a throwing error, upping the lead to 12-0. A passed ball would then score the final run of the inning, making it 13-0 Green Wave after 4.
FIFTH INNING-
Crookston would go down in order in the 5th, giving the Green Wave a 13-0 win via run rule.

Game 2 –
FIRST INNING-
Walsh would also start the second game for the Green Wave, and she would strike out the side in the 1st.
After a flyout, a walk and a hit by pitch quickly put two on for Emma Marcott. She would double in the gap, and after the Pirates hesitated to throw in, everyone came around to score, and the Green Wave took a 3-0 lead. After this, an error and a single put two more runners on, and an RBI single would then make it 4-0. Bowman would then get a strikeout and a popout to end the inning.
SECOND INNING-
Kambelle Freije would lead off the top of the 2nd inning with the only Pirate hit of the game, a single up the middle. The Pirates would strand her at first, however, as two strikeouts and a groundout ended the inning. The groundout is important, as that was the final out by Pirate hitters that was not a strikeout.
Back-to-back walks got the home half of the inning started for EGF, and after a passed ball, an RBI groundout would make it 5-0. Then, a Marcott RBI single made it 6-0. After that, an error by Aubol in right field would make it 7-0 EGF, and that score would stay there at the end of the inning.
THIRD INNING –
Walsh came one pitch away from an immaculate inning in the 3rd, as she struck out the side on 10 pitches.
After a leadoff groundout, a single and stolen base put a runner at second. Then, another Pirate error would score the run, making it 8-0 EGF. Walsh would then step up and double, making it 9-0. EGF was not done yet, as a sacrifice fly would make it 10-0, clearing the bases with two outs. Then, after another Pirate error, Millie Ducksavage pinch hit and delivered a triple, scoring on the throw, making it 12-0 EGF as the 3rd inning came to an end.
FOURTH INNING-
After back-to-back strikeouts, Crookston finally got some traffic on the basepaths, as a hit by pitch and back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Leah Johanneck. However, she would strike out to end the inning, giving Walsh 11 strikeouts in 4 innings.
Two errors and a walk quickly loaded the bases for the Green Wave with no one out in the 4th. A passed ball made it 13-0, and an RBI single then made it 14-0. Finally, a passed ball scored the 15th run of the game, giving the Green Wave a 15-0 win via run rule.
Crookston falls to 6-13 on the season.
