The Crookston Pirate Softball team were stymied offensively throughout all of Tuesday, as they fell to the Nevis Tigers 20-1 in three innings, followed by a 14-2 loss to the East Polk North Stars in six innings in a doubleheader played at Fosston.
Crookston vs East Polk
FIRST INNING-
The game began with Crookston being set down in order, on two flyouts and a popout.
East Polk got a one out single in the 1st from Mahlen, but the North Starts would be retired quietly besides that to end the inning.
SECOND INNING-
Kambelle Freije led off the 2nd inning with a single, and after a passed ball got her to second, Madi Bruggeman doubled her in, giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Then, aftet a flyout, Leia Parkin would drive in Bruggeman, putting the Pirates up 2-0. Peyton Demerais would walk, but a strikeout and groudout would end the inning.
Two errors and a passed ball would get Anderson to third to stafrt the inning, and an RBI groundout would cut the lead to 2-1. A tgird Pirate error would be committed, but no more runs would come across.
THIRD INNING –
Crookston would get a two-out double from Freije in the third, but would go down quietly besides that hit.
A leadoff single and a wild pitch would put the leadoff batter at second, and after a single moved her to third, a sac fly by Breitbach would tie the game at 2. Then, a wild pitch would score the go-ahead run, making it 3-2 North Stars. They would load the bases with two outs, but a force play at home would end the inning.
FOURTH INNING-
In the 4th, Parkin would get her second hit of the game, but a groundout and two strikeouts would eliminate any Crookston threat.
Back-to-back singles got things started for East Polk, and a fielder’s choice that resulted in no outs would make it 4-2, followed by an RBI groundout to make it 5-2. A sac fly after that would give the North Stars a 6-2 lead, and a groundout would then end the inning.
FIFTH INNING-
Crookston would go down in order in the 5th, on a strikeout, popout and lineout.
East Polk started the 5th inning with three straight hits. An error by the Pirates allowed a run to score on the second one to make it 7-2, and a wild pitch would then follow to make it 8-2. Mahlen would deliver yet another RBI hit later in the inning, giving the North Stars a 9-2 lead as the game headed into the 6th.
SIXTH INNING-
Crookston, with one out, got the bases loaded, on singles by Freije and Bruggeman, and a walk from Parkin. However, a strikeout and a picked off runner would end the inning with no runs.
In the 6th, the power came alive for the North Stars. After the fifth Pirate error of the game, Illies would go deep to make it 11-2. Then, after back-to-back walks, Kolden went yard, walking off into a run rule, winning 14-2.

Crookston vs Nevis
FIRST INNING-
Nevis led the game off with a single and a walk, but Emily Bowman stood tall and got two quick outs after that. However, an error by Parkin out in center field would score both of the runners, giving Nevis a 2-0 lead before Crookston got a chance to bat.
In the home half of the inning, Rilynn Aubol was hit by a pitch with one out, but two strikeouts and a popout would end the inning quickly, stranding Aubol at first and keeping the game at 2-0.
SECOND INNING-
The first four batters to step up in the second ining for Nevis reached on two errors and two walks, the fourth one being a walk to make it 3-0. Then, a two-run single would make it 5-0 Nevis. A wild pitch would score the 6th Tigers run, a Pirate error would score the 7th, and then a two-run single would make it 9-0. The Tigers were nowhere near done, as a Rice single made it 10-0, and another bases-loaded walk brought the lead up to 11. Bolster and Dewitt would then each record RBI singles to make it 13-0, another error would score the 14th run, and the 15th run, 13th of the inning, would be scored on a force play, making it 15-0 Nevis before the first out. A popout and strikeout would then end the inning.
Crookston got a two-out single from Burnette, but the rest of the batters to come up in the inning would go down in order.
THIRD INNING –
In the 3rd, three walks would load the bases immediately, and a force play at second would make it 16-0 Nevis. A bases-loaded walk would make it 17-0, and then a two-run double would put the advantage up to 19. Offerdahl would drive in the 20th and final run of the game with a single, and the Tigers would strikeout to end the inning.
A Wagner walk and Aubol double with one out put runners on second and third. Wagner would be caught stealing home for the second out, but Aubol would score on an error to give Crookston their first run of the game. However, that would be all they would get, as a flyout would end the game, giving the Tigers a 20-1 victory.
Crookston drops to 5-10 on the season and will take on Sacred Heart on Thursday.
