Crookston Pirate Volleyball’s season comes to an end with 3-set loss to Perham

The Crookston Pirate Volleyball team’s 2025 campaign came to an end on Wednesday night as they fell in 3 sets to the Perham Yellowjackets by a score of 25-15, 25-10, 25-9 in the first round of the Section 8AA Tournament.

FIRST SET
Perham came out on fire to start the match; they scored the first 3 points, and after the Pirates got one, Perham responded with a 4-0 run to go up 7-1. Then, Perham played their best volleyball of the set, as they surged ahead on a 6-1 run to go up 13-2. The Pirates seemed as if they had no life, but then after getting a point, an Ally Wagner ace helped fuel a 6-2 run, closing the lead down to 15-8. From there, Perham went on another 5-1 run to take a 20-9 lead, before the Pirates scored 5 in a row, three of them being aces by Madi Abrams, to make the set sit at 20-14. However, Perham had the last laugh, as they ended the first set on a 5-1 run to take the set 25-15.

SECOND SET
In the second set, Crookston looked pretty sharp, as they scored 3 of the first 4 points of the set, helped by a Rilynn Aubol ace, but Perham found their groove, and scored 4 in a row to go up 5-3. Perham used that momentum to take off; after both teams alternated points until it was 7-6, Perham took off flying with a 7-1 run to make it 14-8. Once the Pirates scored that 8th point, Perham then flew ahead with a 7-0 run to go up 21-8. The Pirates got 2 more points on 2 more Jayde Utermark kills, but the set went to Perham by a score of 25-10, putting the Yellowjackets up 2 sets to none.

THIRD SET
Unlike the first two sets, Perham refused to start out cold in the third. They scored the first 3 points of the match, and aces were the name of the game for Perham; they recorded 15 of them throughout the match, 6 of them in the third set. A Morgan Boll Kill cut the deficit down to 8-3, but Perham responded with a 5-0 run to take a 10-point advantage. Crookston got their tenth ace of the match from Brynna Kopecky in this set to cut the gap down to 13-5, but Perham responded with yet another 7-0 run to go up 20-5. Both teams would then alternate points until a Renna Kaldor ace ended things at 25-9, giving Perham a 3 sets to none victory, ending the Pirates’ season.

Crooskton’s season ends at 1-21. Perham improves to 17-10 and will take on Frazee on Friday night.
