ADA-BORUP/WEST CRUISES TO 3-0 VICTORY OVER PIRATE VOLLEYBALL

The Crookston Pirate volleyball team suffered a sweep 25-9, 25-16, 25-10 against the defending Section 8A champion Ada-Borup/West in Ada.

In the first set, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back securing a convincing 25-9 lead. “We rallied we really hard,” explained Crookston head coach Ashley Stopa. “We were just learning what they could do. They have some really big blockers and hitters, so we were just trying to figure out where they were and how to adjust.”

In the second set, Crookston proved more resilient but ultimately fell behind two-sets to none after losing 25-16. “We got to 16,” noted Stopa. “We were eliminating errors on our side, but we started to swing and our serve receive really started to pick it up.”

Ada-Borup/West closed out the three-set sweep winning the final set 25-10 to close out the match. “They’re just a consistent team,” said Stopa of the Cougars. “Even though the score was what it was, we played pretty hard. It was just little things that, they’re not going to really let the ball drop on their side. We had to make sure we eliminated as many errors as possible against them.”

Although Crookston was unable to take a set off the defending Section champions, Stopa was pleased with her team’s effort, “even though the score might not reflect how hard we played, we did really good things against a really good team. We’re just going to look to keep improving on our side and hope to see them again.”
