The East Grand Forks Green Wave jumped on Crookston early and coasted the rest of the way for a 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-15) victory in a Section 8A matchup at the EGF Senior High School gymnasium.
FIRST SET
East Grand Forks had a great start as they started the match on a 9-1 run. Lanee Hams had three kills, Laurel Kolstoe had two aces, Ava Kleinvachter added a kill, Kelsey Spilde had an ace, and Crookston had two passing errors. Crookston scored two points with kills from Allysen Wagner and Jayde Uttermark to get within a 9-3 deficit. EGF built a 14-43 lead before Crookston went on a 6-0 run.. Maddi Abrams started the run with an impressive kill, EGF hit out of bounds twice, Wagner had an ace, and Abrams added another kill. After an EGF attack error, Crookston trailed 14-9. The Green Wave picked up their play as they ended on an 11-2 run, led by four kills from Ava Kleinvachter, including the set winner for a 25-11 victory.
SECOND SET
East Grand Forks jumped out to a 7-1 lead that started with two Crookston errors, a Kleinvachter ace, a Crookston serve in the net, an Emma Pieper ace, and kills from Brooke Hecht and Tatem Votava. EGF served out of bounds, and Crookston followed with the same error for a 8-2 Green Wave lead. EGF went on a 6-1 run starting with a Laurel Kolstoe ace, kills from Hams and Votava, two Splide aces, and a Kleinvachter kill for a 14-3 lead. Crookston’s Abigail Bruley had a kill before two serves in the net and another Bruley kill to get within a 15-6 deficit. EGF ended the set on a 10-3 run and won 25-9. Crookston had four errors in the run while four different Green Wave players had kills.
THIRD SET
The start of the third set was much closer as the teams were tied at 1, 3, and 4 before EGF scored four points with two Hams kills, a Hayden Berg ace, and a Crookston attack error. Crookston scored two points on EGF errors to get within an 8-6 deficit. EGF countered with a 10-1 run. EGF’s Votava had three kills, Kleinvachter had a kill and an ace to lead the Green Wave in the run for an 18-7 lead. Crookston scored three points on Green Wave errors to get within an 18-10 deficit. The rest of the set was even as the Green Wave outscored Crookston 7-5 the rest of the way, with six of the 12 points coming on errors by each team, and the Green Wave won the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
Crookston drops to 1-17 on the year and will travel to Northome-Kelliher on Monday. EGF improves to 15-11 on the year.
