The Crookston Planning Commission met on Tuesday night at city hall for a rezoning request and to review the ordinance for the Gateway Overlay Districts. The rezoning request came from Bob Herkenhoff and was to rezone the property to be used for Nature View Estates Plat 4 from highway district and multi-family to one- and two-family housing. The plat was previously approved to build out 12 lots around two cul-de-sacs behind the Barrette View Estates.
“That went through with very little discussion,” said Crookston building official, Matt Johnson. “It’s more of formality to get that rezoned now that the Plat is approved.”
The commission reviewed the Gateway Overlay District Ordinance drafted by the city attorney’s office. A community input forum will be held on February 19. “Three weeks to a month before that we will send mailers to the businesses along the designated gateways,” said Johnson. “The community will be able to give input on the ordinance and get some background information if they haven’t been following it in the media.”
If passed, the ordinance would go in effect day of publishing, but a lot of the regulations will apply to changes or new business explained Johnson. “A lot of the regulations in there would apply to future changes such as extensive remodels or a new business being built,” said Johnson. “A lot of it won’t apply to existing businesses or their owners.”
