CROOKSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS- JUNE COMMUNITY COMMUNICATION

Crookston Public Schools Superintendent Jeremy Olson released a June Community Communication earlier today on behalf of Crookston Public Schools. The communication can be found below.

Greetings from Crookston Public Schools!

Every year we work to improve how we serve students as we continue our commitment to excellence. Excellence is a journey, and we know that it takes a lot of work and dedication. I wanted to highlight some of the planned changes that we are making for next year to better support our students and families at Crookston Public Schools.

Addition of an Elementary School Counselor: We have added an Elementary School Counselor to the staff to support the work that is currently being done by our High School Counselor and to promote a comprehensive K-12 Counseling Program. This position came about based on the hard work done by our World’s Best Workforce Committee and with the support of the Crookston School Board. We believe that the addition of this position, along with the mental health support from Alluma, will provide a stronger support base for our students. Elementary School Counselors provide classroom lessons on character, respect, and responsibility. They also provide guidance for struggling students and work in collaboration with our mental health providers to ensure that our students are getting the support they need.

Expansion of Mental Health Services: Alluma has approached the district with a plan to further expand our mental health services offered through our schools. While we have continually expanded mental health support to our students in the previous years, this additional expansion is designed to meet the growing needs for mental health services that we are seeing in our students.

Continued Support for an Expanded Title I Program: The district is maintaining our commitment to an expanded Title I Program. We saw success in our Title I program as we expanded services to students in an effort to improve student outcomes. While these expanded Title I services increased the cost to the district, we believe that they are having a significant impact on the success of our students.

Highlighting School Zones: We are working with the City of Crookston and Polk County to put in place flashing light indicators that will flash during times when school zones are in effect at Highland and Crookston High School. School zones are areas where we slow traffic for increased safety when students are coming to and leaving from schools. In front of Crookston High School, the school zone is 25 mph, and in front of Highland, the school zone is 15 mph. We hope this will promote better safety in and around our schools during high student traffic times.

Here are some successes that our students have been having recently.

Grace Fischer- Competing in the State Golf Meet!

Breanna Kressin-Competing in the State Track Meet. She competed in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, and 200 at state. Breanna also broke a school record at 15.19 seconds for the 100 hurdles!

Cassie Solheim-Competing in the state Track Meet in the Long Jump. Congratulations to these student-athletes!

Thank You’s: I would like to express my gratitude to KROX and the Crookston Times for their continued coverage of all things Pirates. We are very fortunate to have local media that continue to cover our students and inform our public of the many things happening in our community.

I would also like to thank the community of Crookston for continuing to support our Crookston Public Schools. It is wonderful to see our community turn out at games, events, and other gatherings. We have such a great community here in Crookston and must not take what we have here for granted!
