Crookston Public Schools Superintendent Jeremy Olson released a May Community Communication earlier today. It reminds the community of the recent and upcoming events the school year has planned until the end of the school and other announcements the school has made recently. The entire communication can be found down below –
Greetings from Crookston Public Schools! It looks like summer may finally be on its way after a very long winter and wet spring. As I write this, we have two more weeks of school left, and I am sure most of the kids are counting down!
Here are a couple of things going on at Crookston Public Schools:
Crookston High School Prom: We had a very well-attended prom. Students continue to be excited about large social gatherings, and this Prom did not disappoint. The Prom Committee did an amazing job of decorating the commons, and everything was very well done. The students showed up in their formal wear and seemed to have a great time. Thank you to all of the many people that put on this great experience for our students!
NHS Induction Ceremony: On May 15, we inducted new members into the National Honor Society. This ceremony is always something that I enjoy watching as it showcases the success that our students have experienced. Seeing students being recognized for their scholarship and leadership is always a proud moment. I am so very proud of these students and how they have contributed to Crookston High School!
Public Referendum Meeting on May 18, 5:30 p.m.: Crookston Public Schools is hosting a series of meetings on May 18, June 15, July 20, and August 3, all at 5:30 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium to explain the proposed August 9, 2022 referendum. All community members are welcome to attend and get their questions answered.
Junior High Band/Orchestra Concert on May 23 at 7:30 p.m. We invite the community of Crookston to attend the Junior High Band/Orchestra Concert in the CHS Auditorium. Let’s support music in our schools!
Graduation May 27 at 7 p.m.: The Crookston High School graduation will be held in the CHS Gym on May 27 at 7 p.m. All community members are invited to attend and celebrate the class of 2022 graduates!
Crookston High School Principal: We recently made the decision to promote Mr. Matt Torgerson to the High School Principal position. Mr. Torgerson has established some deep roots in Crookston, where he has been a teacher and administrator. He has established strong relationships with our students and continues to look for ways to move Crookston High School to the next level. The administrative team continues to be impressed with Mr. Torgerson’s growth as an administrator, and he continues to have my utmost respect and support.
Crookston Superintendent Position: I have accepted the superintendent position at Bemidji Public Schools and will serve in my current capacity until the end of June. Crookston Public Schools has been such a great place to work, and I have especially appreciated the strong support from the Crookston School Board and the community. This School Board has been an exceptional school board to work for as they have always provided me with a strong vision and charged me with the execution of this vision. I am grateful for the mentorship and support that they have given me as I develop as a leader. I am also grateful for the wonderful staff at Crookston Public Schools. We have great people working in our school system who have such a focus on not only academic growth but also the personal development of our students. Crookston is very fortunate to have these wonderful individuals working towards the betterment of our schools.
The school board has chosen to go with an interim superintendent for next year and will start a full search for this position in December 2022. The School Board has decided to enter into negotiations with Dave Kuehn, who is retiring from Underwood Public Schools. I am incredibly excited to work with Mr. Kuehn as he transitions into the superintendent position here at Crookston. We worked together four years ago as he transitioned to Underwood and I can without hesitation tell you that he is an excellent leader who will do great things for the district. Dave Kuehn is an ideal choice as he has strong ties to Crookston and has an established history of excellence in leadership.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at 218-770-8717 (cell) or email me at jeremyolson@isd593.org. Go Pirates!
