A couple months ago, Eldred area farmer Alan Dragseth brought a concern to the Crookston School Board about the possibility of the Crookston School District losing land to another district. Crookston Schools Superintendent Jeremy Olson looked into Dragseth’s claims and found Polk County was reworking some lines and after looking it over they decided the lines will stay the same and nothing will be changed. “It was kind of a long drawn out process and what basically happened was a situation in which land was supposed to be transferred to another district based on lines that were drawn on the MD (Minnesota Department of Education) map,” said Olson. “The lesson at the end of the day was MD maps are not supposed to be used for taxation purposes or parcel purposes. We went back to the way things were and there was no changes and that is a net positive for our district.”
The Minnesota Department of Education puts out maps for each school district and are references for the district so you know district lines are. “They are not to be used for parcels is what we found through this process,” said Olson. “Everything will stay the same as last year, the net effect will be a net positive for our district.”
