Crookston Softball run-rules the Northern Freeze

The Crookston Pirate Softball team only needed 4 innings to get their second win of the year, as they took down the Northern Freeze 16-1 at Donnie Lauf Field on Thursday.

FIRST INNING-
The Freeze looked to get a rally going to start the game, as Katie Clark reached with a one-out walk, but Emily Bowman put a stop to that real fast, as a quick strikeout and lineout ended the frame.
Crookston did get a rally going in the bottom of the inning in a big way. The first 5 hitters reached on two walks, two hit batters and an error, and after an RBI groundout by Shyuh Burnette, 4 of the first 6 batters scored, making it 4-0 Pirates. RBI singles by both Brylee Darco and Peyton Demerais made it 6-0 Pirates, and then in her 2nd at-bat of the inning, Emily Bowman ran the squeeze play to perfection to cap off the inning, with the Pirates leading 7-0 after the end of the inning.

SECOND INNING-
The Northern Freeze had more runners on base in the 2nd inning, after a 1-out double and a walk immediately after, but once again, Emily Bowman rose to the occasion, striking out back-to-back batters to end the frame.
Crookston added more runs in the 2nd inning. Madi Bruggeman led off with a single, and after a Kambelle Freije walk, scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-0 Pirates. After a walk to Darco, Demerais had another RBI with a base hit the other way to make it 9-0, and then after a stolen base, Ally Wagner drove in Demerais, getting the Pirates to double figures, leading the Freeze 10-0 after two innings.

THIRD INNING –
The Freeze led off the third inning with an Ada Pearson walk, and she then swiped second. Hadley Reese then lined out to Freije at first, but she threw the ball into left field, getting Pearson to 3rd. Bowman bailed her out, though, as she struck out two more batters to end the inning.
Crookston looked to boost their lead, and did so in a very interesting way. Aubol singled then stole second and third, then after Madi Bruggeman walked, Bruggeman took off for 2nd, getting in safely while scoring Aubol. Freije then drove in Bruggeman with a double to make it 12-0 Pirates. The next 3 Pirates were retired in order to end the inning.

FOURTH INNING-
The Freeze finally broke the scoreless streak in the 4th. After a base hit, two straight errors loaded the bases, and Katie Gustafson came off the bench and drove in Tarsan Erickson. However, the trail runner was thrown out at the plate, and the next two runners were retired to end the inning at a 12-1 Pirates lead.
The Pirates looked to end the game in the 4th, and did so quickly. After a leadoff double by Demerais, Bowman and Aubol each delivered RBI hits to make it 14-1 Pirates. Bruggeman made it to 3rd on a fielding error, and after Freije drove in Aubol on a sacrifice fly, Bruggeman scored the team’s 16th run on a wild pitch to end the game, giving the Pirates a 16-1 victory.

Crookston improves to 2-3 on the year, while the Northern Freeze drops to 0-4 on the year.
