The Roseau Rams’ pitching was outstanding, and the offense started slow but picked up as the doubleheader went along to beat the Crookston Pirate Softball team 10-0 and 14-0 in five-inning games in a Section 8AA doubleheader in Roseau.
FIRST INNING-
Crookston’s Emily Bowman led off the game with a base hit. The next batter hit into a fielder’s choice before the next two batters struck out, and the Pirates were retired.
Roseau started the bottom of the inning with a Brooklyn Hulst bunt single. Hulst advanced to third base on a Pirate defensive breakdown.
A Roseau groundout scored a run, and the Rams took a 1-0 lead.
SECOND INNING-
Roseau pitcher, Brooklyn Hulst finished the first inning with two strikeouts and kept the streak going as she struck out the first two batters of the inning before getting a pop out and Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
Roseau led off the bottom of the inning with a single. After a flyout, they singled again. After a fielder’s choice where everybody was safe to load the bases, the next batter hit into a double play, and the inning was over.
THIRD INNING –
Crookston’s first two batters struck out before Bowman reached on a walk, and she was caught stealing at second base to retire the Pirates.
Roseau started the inning with a lead-off walk before the Ram was caught stealing. The next batter popped out before a ground out and Roseau took a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning.
FOURTH INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout and two popouts. Roseau added another run with a leadoff triple and scored on an error for a 2-0 lead. The next two Ram batters struck out, followed by a ground out.
FIFTH INNING-
Crookston’s Madi Bruggeman reached on an error before a strikeout and a double play ended the inning. Roseau started the bottom of the inning with a Hulst single and a stolen base. She moved to third base on a wild pitch. The next batter grounded out to score another run, and the Rams led 3-0. Peyton Remick singled, stole second base, and after an out, she scored on a wild pitch for a 4-0 Ram lead.
SIXTH INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a ground out and two more strikeouts.
Roseau started the bottom of the inning with six straight singles to score four runs. After a walk loaded the bases, the next batter singled to score two runs, and the Rams won the game 10-0.

Game 2
FIRST INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout and two ground outs. Roseau got things going right away in the bottom of the inning with two singles. The next batter reached on an error that allowed a run to score. The next batter grounded out and another run scored for a 2-0 lead. Knochenmus hit a fly and reached on another Crookston error allowing another run to score for a 3-0 lead. The next two batters were retired.
SECOND INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three strikeouts. Roseau started the bottom of the inning with a walk and the next batter reached on an error that allowed another run to score. Another run scored on a flyout for a 5-0 lead.
THIRD INNING –
Crookston’s first two batters were retired on a groundout and a strikeout. Leah Johanneck singled before the next batter popped out.
Roseau started the bottom of the inning with a hit batter, followed by a single that scored a run for a 6-0 lead. The next two batters grounded out, and another run scored for a 7-0 lead. The next batter singled before a walk. Another Ram scored on an error for a 9-0 lead.
FOURTH INNING-
The Pirates’ Lilly Corneillie singled with one out before the next two batters were retired to end the inning. Roseau’s Launa Ullman led off with a walk, and Knochenmus doubled to score a run. After a pop-out, a Ram reached on an error before two runs scored on a ground out for a 12-0 lead. Another Ram walked, followed by a single to take a 13-0 lead. After another Pirate error, a run scored on a wild pitch for a 14-0 lead.
FIFTH INNING-
Crookston’s first two batters were retired on a pop-out and a ground out before a Demarais walk. The next batter struck out, and the game was over with Roseau winning 14-0.
Crookston drops to 4-7 on the year and will host Red Lake Falls on Friday. Roseau improves to 11-2 on the year.
