The six Crookston Pirate Wrestlers that competed at the Minnesota State High School League State Individual tournament two weeks ago, were honored in a “Welcome Home” celebration in the Crookston High School gymnasium.
The Crookston High School student body and some members of the public attended the celebration with the lights off and the wrestling light was on in the middle of the gym floor. Pirate Wrestling Coach Wes Hanson introduced the six Pirate wrestlers, Evin Trudeau, Ethan Bowman, Carter Coauette, Hunter Knutson, and then introduced the two medalists.
Coach Hanson introduced eighth-grader Gavyn Hlucny who finished sixth place at 120-pounds. Hlucny was a Section 8A Champion and coach Hanson believes he is the first eighth-grader to earn a section championship. The final introduction was the junior state champion Ethan Boll. Only the third Pirate wrestler to win a state championship and the first Crookston High School state champion since 2004.
Coach Hanson wrapped up the program and the wrestlers, their families, and several students enjoyed cake and refreshments after the ceremony.
