RLCC USES SOLID SERVING AND BIG KILLS TO BEAT CROOKSTON VOLLEYBALL

The Red Lake County Central Mustangs used solid serving and fantastic net play as they beat the Crookston Pirate Volleyball team 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-9) to snap a 10-match losing streak at the Crookston High School gymnasium, spoiling Crookston’s parents night.

FIRST SET
The teams battled back and forth with ties at 1, and 5. Crookston built a 14-10 lead after a Joey Nesseth kill before RLCC went on an 8-0 run behind two service aces from Kendra Christianson and two kills from Jamie Flatgard for an 18-14 lead, forcing a Crookston time-out. Crookston scored a point on a Nesseth kill, but the Mustangs kept the lead around four and five points and won the set 25-20.

SECOND SET
The teams had a fantastic back-and-forth battle early with ties at 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 before RLCC rattled off four points while taking advantage of two Crookston errors and a Quinn Graves kill for a 10-6 lead. Crookston tried to battle back and got within a 14-11 deficit after a Kristine Bernd kill, but RLCC responded with a 5-0 run behind kills from Graves, Ella Moen, and Keira Morinville for a 19-11 lead. The teams would play even the rest of the way and RLCC won 25-15 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

THIRD SET
Red Lake County Central had a great start to the third set by going on a 5-1 run behind three kills from Jamie Flatgard. The Mustangs had a 7-3 lead when they went on a 10-0 run behind three Flatgard aces for a 17-3 lead. RLCC continued to dominate the set and coasted to a 25-9 victory to win the match 3-0.

Crookston drops to 2-9 on the year and will host the Crookston Invitational on Saturday when they play Clearbrook-Gonvick, Warroad, and Bagley in pool play. Red Lake County Central improves to 2-10 on the year.
