DETROIT LAKES BATTLES THE WIND TO BEAT PIRATE BOYS TENNIS

The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team’s struggles continued in a 6-1 loss to the Detroit Lakes Lakers in a Section 8A match played on a windy and cool afternoon in Crookston. “The wind was tough today, but it even for both teams,” said Pirate Coach Cody Brekken. “It was good for us to play in the strong wind because it could be like this at sections.”
The only Pirate win came at first singled when Nick Garmen cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.  “Nick played well today,” said Coach Brekken. “He wasn’t happy on Tuesday, but he came out and played a very good match today and that was nice to see.”
The match couldn’t have been different with four three-set matches, but Detroit Lakes was able to outlast the Pirates.  All three doubles teams lost hard-fought three-set matches with the first doubles team of Blake Fee and Tanner Janorschke, the second doubles team of Robert Janorschke and Dilon Owens, and the third doubles team of Chris Kazmierczak and Logan Johnson.  Jack Garmen lost his second singles match in three sets. “We had some very close matches today.  They guys were competing better than Tuesday, that is for sure,” said Coach Brekken. “We don’t like losing the close matches and we have to find a way to get those close ones, but the guys competed a lot better today so that was nice to see.”

Crookston is still looking for their first win and drops to 0-4 on the year.  “We need to get that first win, that is for sure,” said Coach Brekken. “We have seen several things we have to work on in the last two matches.  We will keep working and the guys have to trust the process and it will pay off.”  Crookston will host Moorhead on Tuesday.
