DGF RUNS AND GUNS TO A BIG VICTORY OVER PIRATE BOYS BASKETBALL

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Basketball team struggled to rebound and scoring as the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels used their run and gun offense to win the game 84-49 in a Section 8AA game played at Glyndon.

FIRST HALF –
The first half was back and forth for the first 12 minutes. Jack Garmen started the game with a three-pointer and after a DGF basket, Tanner Giese scored for a 5-2 lead over a minute into the game.  DGF responded with a 6-0 run to take an 8-5 lead before Hunter Nicholas made a three-pointer to tie the game.  The teams exchanged baskets with Isaac Thomforde scoring to tie the game at 10.  The teams exchanged three-pointers with Jack Garmen making a three to tie the game at 13.  Tanner Giese grabbed a rebound at the top of the key and went coast to coast for a layup to give Crookston a 15-13 lead with 12 minutes left in the half, forcing DGF to call a time out. Whatever was said in the DGF huddle during the time out worked because the Rebels went on a 23-5 run with a lot of points off Pirate turnovers or missed Pirate shots and DGF led 36-20 with over five minutes left in the half.  Crookston finally stopped the run when Jacob Hesby made a three-pointer, but DGF responded with a three-pointer, a three-point play, and a basket for an 8-0 run for a 44-23 lead.  Jack Garmen scored the next four points of the game, but DGF scored the final three points of the half to take a 46-27 into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
DGF continued to dominate in the second half by using their speed, height, and solid rebounding while limiting Crookston to one-shot almost every possession.  The Rebels started the second half on an 18-3 run with the only Pirate points coming on a Hesby three-pointer and Crookston trailed 64-30 three minutes into the half. Jack Garmen stopped the run with a three-pointer and after a couple of DGF baskets, Haden Michaelson made a three-pointer and Hesby followed with a basket to bring the Pirates within a 68-38 deficit.  After a Jack Garmen basket, Crookston trailed 74-42, but DGF made back-to-back baskets halfway through the half, and running time started for the rest of the game and the Rebels cruised to an 84-49 victory.

Crookston drops to 2-8 on the year and will travel to Fertile on Friday to take on the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons.  DGF improves to 5-2 on the season.
