Dora Hjordis Moses (Oien) – OBIT

Dora Hjordis Moses (Oien), 93, passed away peacefully in the afternoon on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston with her children present. She was born in Detroit Lakes, MN, on November 20, 1930, to loving parents John and Dedrikka (Olson) Oien.

Dora spent the early years of her life in Detroit Lakes, where she attended and graduated from school, and where she married the love of her life, Duane Moses, on October 14, 1950. The pair were married for 55 years until Duane’s passing in 2005. For a brief period of time, from 1950 until 1954, the couple lived in Fergus Falls before moving to Crookston where they made their home and raised their three children: Lynette, Bruce, and Brent.

Dora focused several years on raising her children before taking a job as a sales representative with Avon in 1972, which she proudly worked for until her retirement in 2007. Over the years, due to her dedication and hard work, Dora won 13 Albee Porcelain Doll Pinnacle awards. Not only was she a dedicated employee, but she was also a dedicated member of the community, volunteering her time to several organizations like the Eagles, the American Legion, and the VFW Auxiliaries. For much of her life, Dora was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church until she was no longer able to attend due to her physical limitations.

Dora will be remembered for her spunk, zest for life, hardworking nature, as well as her loving and gentle spirit. She loved to spend time with her family, watch TV, read, and go for long relaxing walks. When she wasn’t with her family or out for a walk, you would find her surrounded by her flowers which brought her a tremendous amount of joy throughout her life. She was a wonderful mother, easy to be around, and focused a lot in her life on trying to be a good and thoughtful person to everyone she encountered, which her family would agree she accomplished.

Left to mourn Dora’s passing are her children, Lynette (Bob) Young and Brent Moses, both of Crookston; Grandchildren, Natalie (Mark) Otterson of Warroad, MN, and Heather (Mike) Bergeron of East Grand Forks, MN; Great-Grandchildren: Mike (Breanna) Otterson, Jackie (Brent) Huebner, John (Ashley), Samantha Blackburn, Joshua Blackburn, Ashley (Jack) Croaker, Emily Bergeron, Katie Bergeron, and Alexis Bergeron; many Great-Great-Grandchildren; a brother, Eldor Oien of Lancaster, VA; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Moses; a son, Bruce Moses, who sadly passed away in 2023; sister, Helga Lubenow; brothers, Rudy, Arthur, and Hartvick; and sisters-in-law: Marilyn, Lena, and Frances.

The Funeral Service honoring Dora’s life will be on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Knollwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fergus Falls, MN, following a luncheon at the funeral home. Please visit www.stenshoelhouske.com and follow the prompts to Dora’s obituary page to leave expressions of sympathy for her surviving family members.

May God Bless the Memory of Dora Hjordis Moses.
