EAST GRAND FORKS GREEN WAVE USE POWERFUL OFFENSE TO BEAT CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRLS SOCCER

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team hosted the East Grand Forks Green Wave on Tuesday afternoon from the Crookston High School Soccer Fields. East Grand Forks had a powerful offense and it showed, as the Green Wave cruised to a 6-1 win.

FIRST HALF –
East Grand Forks immediately showed why they are one of the best teams in Northwest Minnesota, attacking on offense early and often. They finally broke through after several chances at the 7:48 mark to take a 1-0 lead on a goal from Camryn Adams. Shortly after, the Green Wave would have their first corner kick of the day and they would capitalize again to take a 2-0 lead. The Pirates would bear down for a few more minutes, the Green Wave would tack on another goal with 24:46 remaining in the half to take a 3-0 lead. In the remaining portion of the half, the Pirates did a great job of keeping East Grand Forks to limited shot attempts, and along with solid goalkeeper play by Cassies Solheim, and a few nice defensive plays, the Pirates kept the deficit at 3-0 heading into halftime. East Grand Forks outshot the Pirates 9-0 in the opening half, but it should be noted that the Pirates were going straight into a 15 mph wind making it tough to operate.

SECOND HALF –
East Grand Forks didn’t seem to mind the wind, as the Green Wave quickly scored just four minutes into the second half to extend their lead 4-0. Two minutes later they added another goal, and with just eighteen minutes remaining in the match, they would score another to take a 6-0 lead. The Pirates continued to fight, and they would be rewarded with just two minutes remaining. Crookston would get to a ball on the Green Wave’s end of the field, and Hattie Weiland would set up Katelyn Christensen in front of the net. Christensen would pound the ball into the net as the Pirates sideline erupted. After that the final two minutes would run off the clock, giving East Grand Forks the 6-1 win.

Crookston drops to 2-3-1 on the year and will play again Thursday when they host Pelican Rapids. The match will get underway at 3:30 p.m. East Grand Forks improves to 5-0-1.
