EGF VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS ROSEAU, ADVANCE TO SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP

The East Grand Forks Green Wave came up with big points when they needed them and beat the Roseau Rams 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 26-24) in the Section 8AA semi-finals (North Sub-Section Championship) played at Thief River Falls High School.  The trip to the section championship will be the first since 2008 for the Green Wave. 

FIRST SET- 
East Grand Forks started the match down a point, but responded with three straight points with a kill each from McKaylee Fitzpatrick and Addison Kujawa mixed with a Roseau attack into the net for a 3-1 lead.  Roseau would slowly claw back and tie the set at 9-9. 
EGF countered with back-to-back kills from Hayli Robertson and Alison Kovar and after a Roseau point, they led 11-10.  EGF responded with kills from Fitzpatrick and Alison Kovar for a 13-10 lead forcing a Roseau timeout.  The time out didn’t work as the Green Wave responded with four more points behind two Roseau attack errors and Kujawa block and a Mya Garrett ace for a 17-10 lead.  Roseau fought back, as they did all night, and got within a 20-19 deficit. The teams exchanged points and EGF led 23-22 when Alison Kovar had a big block and that was followed by a Kujava kill and the Green Wave won the first set 25-22.
In the set, Green Wave senior setter, Tatum Spokely had 11 assists which put her past 1,000 career assists.  They didn’t stop the match to honor Spokely because of the importance of the match. 

SECOND SET –
East Grand Forks took a 4-1 lead to start the second set with a Roseau attack error, a Kujawa block, a Claire Beck ace, and a Fitzpatrick kill.  EGF continued to hold a lead while taking their biggest lead of the set at 12-5.  As they did all match long, Roseau battled back to get within an 18-15 deficit.  The Green Wave had an answer as Kujawa had a big kill followed by two Roseau attack errors and EGF led 21-15. The teams exchanged points the rest of the set and Fitzpatrick had a big kill to win the set 25-21 to give East Grand Forks a commanding 2-0 lead.

THIRD SET – 
Roseau scored the first three points of the set and took their biggest lead of the match.  East Grand Forks battled back to tie the set at 6-6 after a kill by Robertson and an ace from Tatum Spokely.  Roseau answered with four straight points for a 10-6 lead, but a big block from Ellie Marcott sparked a 7-0 Green Wave run for a 13-10 lead.  The teams battled back-and-forth and were tied at 14, 15, 16, and 18.  Roseau had a couple of attack errors and EGF led 20-18.  Roseau mounted a late mini-rally to tie the set at 24 forcing a Green Wave timeout.   EGF took a 25-24 lead when Roseau hit into the net and the they won the match when Kujawa had a kill on the far side of the net (video of the final point is below) to get the kill and the 26-24 victory to win the match 3-0. 

East Grand Forks improves to 17-12 on the season and will play Barnesville in the Section 8AA Championship on Saturday at 7:00 PM at a site to be determined. 
Roseau’s season comes to an end with a record of 15-15 and they will say goodbye to the following seniors – Becca Wensloff, Aubrey Wage, Rosemonde Street, and Chesney Lee.
