EGF WINS CROOKSTON VB INVITE AGAIN, CROOKSTON GOES 0-4

The Pirate Girls Volleyball team went 0-4 at a tournament played at Crookston High School. Crookston lost to Bagley, Warroad, Kelliher-Northome, and Climax-Fisher by 2-0 scores.
East Grand Forks won the tournament for the second straight year going a perfect 4-0.

CROOKSTON vs BAGLEY
Crookston had a close first set with Bagley, but the Flyers finally pulled away and won 25-18. Crookston was led in kills by Mackenzie Funk, who tallied five. The second set saw strong play from Bagley. Emma LaPlante served two aces, but it wasn’t enough as Bagley ran away with a 25-12 set win and a 2-0 match victory.

CROOKSTON VS WARROAD
Crookston found themselves in another close first set, this time with Warroad. Joey Nesseth got on the board with three kills. Warroad finally pulled away and won the first set 25-20. The second set saw Warroad get off to a 6-1 run. Crookston tried to get back into it off the back of three LaPlante kills, but it wasn’t enough, and Warroad won the second set 25-13, giving them a 2-0 match victory.

CROOKSTON vs NORTHOME-KELLIHER
Crookston once again found themselves in a close first set. It was tied a one, three, and five through 11. Northome-Kelliher went on run 4-0 with some great serve play, including three aces. NK got on another run, this time 5-0 with two aces to give themselves a 20-14 lead. Crookston brought it back to 20-18 off of a strong serving from Rhianna Moore. Mackenzie Funk got a big kill to make it 22-20, but Kelliher-Northone won three of the next four points to close out the first set.
The second set started off with a 5-1 run for Crookston. After strong serves from Joey Nesseth, including one ace, the Pirates were up 10-2. It was back and forth for a few points before NK went on a 4-0 run, ended by a Funk kill. It was back and forth for the next few points, including a kill and ace from Kristine Bernd and a LaPlante kill. At 17-13, NK went on a 5-0 run, ending with a Nesseth kill. It was tied at 18, 20, 22, and 23 before NK won the last two points to take the second set 25-23 and win the match 2-0.

CROOKSTON VS CLIMAX-FISHER
Crookston found themselves quickly down 8-4 in the first set. Fisher-Climax then went on an 8-1 run, giving them a 16-9 lead. Crookston made it 19-12 before Climax-Fisher got the final six points to give them the set one victory.
The second set was much more competitive. It was tied at one through five before Fisher-Climax went on a 4-0 run to make it 8-5. At 9-7, Crookston won five straight points, including great serves from Kopecky and a kill from Bernd. The following few points were back-and-forth before at 14-13, Crookston 5-0 run. At 20-14, Fisher-Climax got three straight kills and a block to make it 20-17. Mackenzie Funk got a kill to stop that run, and Crookston soon made it 23-19. Fisher-Climax then went on a 5-0 run with two aces to make 24-23. Crookston would tie it at 24 each with a kill from Bernd. It was tied at 25-25 before Fisher-Climax won the last two sets, winning the match 2-0.
