Emily Bowman signs to play Softball at NDSCS

Crookston High School Senior Emily Bowman has signed a letter of intent to attend and play softball at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota, next year.

Bowman said she was going to the school anyway to major in Occupational Therapy, and playing softball was a bonus. “It is a great school. They have a great softball program and tons of great academic programs. I plan on going into the Occupational Therapy Assistant program,” said Bowman. It is a super nice campus. You get the small-town feel and the normal college experience.”
Bowman said she got along with the coach right away. “Mike (Oehlke) and I had an instant click, and I knew I would enjoy playing for him, and the program he has built is so good, I am excited to be a part of it,” said Bowman. “I would have gone there no matter what, and playing softball is a bonus.”

Emily’s coach and mother, Sunny Bowman, was a little choked up talking about her daughter signing. “Emily is a great player; she knows strategy, and she is a good leader. The girls look up to her, and they ask her questions, and they know she won’t sugarcoat things,” said Sunny Bowman. “Actually, last year, she played every position except for first base. She spends a lot of time playing softball, working out in the winter, and spending time in the weight room. It is a very proud moment, hence the tears!”

Some area players are on the team this year, including Jayden Breiland of Red Lake Falls and Ava Howard of Macintosh.
