Eric Jon Ambuehl – OBIT

Eric Jon Ambuehl, 53, a longtime Crookston, MN resident, passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2024, at Tampa Hospital in Tampa Bay, FL, where he had currently been living.

Eric was born in Ada, MN on September 13, 1970, the son of Arlin Mark and Laurel Jean (Swenson) Ambuehl. While Arlin, better known as “Perry”, was serving with the US Army, Laurel lived in Ada. Upon his return from duty the young family moved to Crookston. Eric was educated in Crookston schools and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1989. He then attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis studying radio broadcasting. Upon completion of his courses Eric began working as an announcer and on-air personality for KMSR in Mayville, ND. He later returned to Crookston where he was employed as a bartender at the local VFW. He enjoyed re-connecting with old friends and patrons of the Club he had known his entire life while also forming new friendships. Family gatherings were very important to Eric and he enjoyed the great times and wonderful memories formed when everyone was able to come together. Sadly, his mother, Laurel, passed away on April 8, 2012. Eric had always loved to travel and he headed out to the west coast where he spent time in Oregon and the Yellowstone National Park area of Wyoming. He later moved to Minneapolis and most recently to Tampa Bay.

Eric will be lovingly remembered by his father, Perry, and brother, Cory, of Crookston; several aunts and uncles from the Ambuehl and Swenson families: Arna Yetter of Cottage Grove, MN, and Tony Ambuehl and Arvid “Hap” Ambuehl of Ada, MN, Steve Swenson of Crookston, Merry Jo Prather of Grand Forks, ND, Carole Olson of East Grand Forks, MN, Richard (Kristi) Swenson of New Rockford, ND, and Bruce Swenson (Joe Sanft) of Chicago, IL; together with many cousins, extended family, and friends. In addition to Laurel, his beloved mother; Eric is preceded in death by grandparents: Armond and Ardis Ambuehl and Morton and Phyllis Swenson; and uncles: Tom Yetter, Charlie Olson, and Glen Prather.

Memories of Eric will be shared at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston. Sharing a story would be very appreciated. Visitation with Eric’s family will be for one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will be in the Skatvold Cemetery, rural, Climax, MN. The Sharing of Memories will be livestreamed beginning at 2:00 p.m. by going to Eric’s obituary page at www.stenshoelhouske.com and clicking on the prompt to view. Messages of condolence to the family may be offered on the funeral home website as well.
