The Fergus Falls Otters peppered the net with shots early and often and cruised to a 6-0 victory over the Crookston Pirate Girls Hockey team in a game played at the Crookston Sports Center.
Fergus Falls scored just 51 seconds into the game when Maddie Hulter scored a partial whiff just catching the puck with the heel of the stick slowly nudging it past Koshney. Jade Zierdan would score on the power play with 4:21 to go in the first to make it 2-0 when Sophie Rausch sent a pass through the crease to Zierdan who stuffed it home from the left post.
Vivian Karsnia scored twice in the second period with just 2:49 seconds between goals and Fergus Falls led 5-0 after 2.
In the third period, Piper Andrews scored the final goal of the game with 11:05 to go when Hulter picked up a loose puck behind the Pirate net and threw it out front of the goal where Andrews slid it past Koshney. Late in the period, Catherin Tiedemann had a breakaway opportunity to get the Pirates on the board, but her wrist shot sailed high to the right keeping the Pirates off the board.
“They passed the puck better than any team we’ve seen so far this year,” said Pirate coach Tim Moe. “We went out and competed and to only give up thirty-some shots to a team like that I thought was pretty good.” Crookston got outmuscled in the game and they were only able to get three shots on goal.
Fergus Falls improved to 8-3-0, Crookston falls to 2-7-1. The Pirates will play next in East Grand Forks on Tuesday, December 18 with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
