Fertile-Beltrami Falcon Softball beats NCE/UH, falls to BGMR

The Fertile-Beltrami Falcon Softball team came from behind to beat the Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal Titans 4-3 in the first round of the Section 8A Softball tournament then lost to the Badger/Greenbush-Middle River Gators 24-0 in four innings in Greenbush.

FIRST INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami’s first two batters were retired on a strikeout and a ground out before Britta Sorenson blasted a line drive down the left field line for a stand-up double. The next batter struck out.
NCE/UH’s first two batters flew out to center field and the next batter grounded out. Izzy Ruud singled to left field for a two-out hit before Olivia Thies hit a line drive to the second baseman Gracee Henrickson who made the catch for the third out.

SECOND INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami’s first two batters grounded out and struck out before MiMi Iverson walked and Kora Benson reached on an error. With runners at first and second, the next batter struck out.
The Titan’s Claire Bambrink singled to center field, but the ball went under the glove of the fielder and the runner advanced to third base on the error. Bella Madson grounded out and a run came into score for a 1-0 lead. Gretchen Bain and Alissa Anderson singled before the next two batters grounded out and the Titans led 1-0 after two innings.

THIRD INNING –
Fertile-Beltrami tied the game when Aubryn Johnson had a one-out double, advanced to third base on a wild pitch and with two outs scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1.
Makenzie Juarez led off the bottom of the inning with a triple to the right-center field gap.
Ruud flew out to left field to score a run to give the Titans a 2-1 lead.

FOURTH INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami’s Madison Stueness led off the fourth inning with a walk, moved to second base on a ground out, and moved to third base on another ground out. The next Falcon batter grounded out and the threat was over.
Fertile-Beltrami pitcher Britta Sorenson fired strikes and let her defense do the work in the bottom of the inning as the first two Titan batters grounded out and the next batter flew out for a 1-2-3 inning.

FIFTH INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami’s Ella Gorder led off the inning with a walk before the next three batters were retired.
The first two Titan batters grounded out before Juarez singled to left field. Ruud hit a fly ball over the left fielder’s head and Juarez tried to reached third base and was thrown out for the third out of the inning.

SIXTH INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami’s Sip started the inning by reaching on a strikout and passed ball. The next two batters were retired. MiMi Iverson doubled to left field to score a run to tie the game 2-2. Benson walked and with runners at the corners, Elly Gorder hit a fly ball to center field and the ball was dropped and two runs scored for a 4-2 lead.
NCE/UH’s Thies started the bottom of the inning with a double. The next two batters struck out and grounded out before a Bain double to score a run to bring the Titans within a 4-3 deficit.

SEVENTH INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a ground out and two strikeouts.
NCE/UH’s first two batters were retired on a ground out and a pop out. Juarez singled and stole second base to put the tying run in scoring position. Ruud was hit by a pitch and runners were at first and second base with the winning run at first base. Fertile-Beltrami’s Sorenson struck out the next batter and the Falcons won the game 4-3.

Fertile-Beltrami improves to 5-12 on the year and will play Badger/Greenbush-Middler River. Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal Titans season ends with a record of 8-11.

FIRST INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami’s Aubrey Johnson was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a throwing error and moved to third on a wild pitch and was thrown out trying to score on a fielder’s choice. The next batter struck out and the half inning was over.
BGMR’s Kenzie Dahl reached on a bloop sinbgle to right field before stealing second base. The next batter lined out to second base. Teagan Landsrud blasted a line drive to second base and it went off the Falcon glove. Landsrud reached and Dahl was caught between third and home. A throw went off the glove of the third baseman and Dahl came into score on the error. Sarah Pulk hit a fly ball to right center field and the ball fell in between two Falcons and another run scored on the paly. The Gators Kailey Hanson ripped a ground ball into right field to score another run for a 3-0 lead. The next batter flew out to right field and the Gators took a 3-0 lead into the second inning.

SECOND INNING-
The Gators first two batters were retired before Dahl doubled, Jaci Hanson reached on an error and a run scored. Teagan Landsrud tripled and scored on an error for a 6-0 lead. Quinn Vacura blasted a fly ball over the centerfield fence for a solo homerun. Pulk followed with a double to left-center field before the next batter flew out and the Gators took a 7-0 lead.

THIRD INNING
The Falcons first batter was retired before Elly Gorder and Dani Kresl walked. Aubryn Johnson hit a ground ball and beat out and interference was called so everybody was safe. The next batter grounded into a double play and the threat was over.
The Gators added more runs in the bottom of the inning as

Dahl singled, and Hanson walked to load the bases. The next batter hit into a fielder’s choice and the Falcons got the out at home for the first out of the inning and bases were still loaded. The next batter hit a ground ball to third base and an error allowed a run to score. Sarah Pullk singled to score a run, Kailey Hanson had a two-run triple. Sierra Landsrud reached on a single and an error allowed a run to score. Kieran Nelson walked, Washington was hit by a pitch again. Dahl tripled to score three more runs for a 19-0 lead. Teagan Landsrud reached on an error, Vacura reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Maelee Christianson pinch hit and singled to right field to score two runs for a 21-0 lead.
Hanson ripped a line drive to the fence to score two more runs for a 23-0 lead. Maddi Pulk grounded out and another run scored for a 24-0 lead. Ava Warne walked before the runner on third left early and was called out.

FOURTH INNING-
BGMR brought in Kate Harder and Fertile-Beltrami’s leadoff batter grounded out, the next two batters popped out and the Gators won the game 24-0.

Fertile-Beltrami drops to 5-13 on the year and will play Mahnomen/Waubun on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in Fosston.
