Update – 12:54 p.m. – October 16
The driver of the 2001 Mazda Tribute was identified as 36-year-old Jacob Anderson of Fertile MN and the passenger was identified as 33-year-old Alison Reierson of Winger.
Original Story –
On Tuesday, October 15, at approximately 12:54 p.m. the Polk County Sheriff’s Office along with the Crookston Area Ambulance and Crookston Fire Department were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Polk County road 46 and 270th St SW (the Highway 2 bypass by Gentilly).
A 2001 Mazda Tribute was westbound on 270th Ave SW and failed to yield to a 2019 Freightliner M2 which was southbound on county road 46. The driver of the Freightliner, Robert Arnett, a 57-year-old from Silver Bay, MN was uninjured. The driver of the Mazda, a 36-year-old male from Fertile, and his passenger, a 33-year-old female from Winger, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The deceased male and female were transported to the UND Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Also assisting at the scene was the Minnesota State Patrol.
The names of the victims will be released pending next of kin notification.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
