FIRST COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION HOLDS GROUNDBREAKING, CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN SOON

First Community Credit Union (FCCU) held their groundbreaking event Tuesday afternoon at their future location on the corner of University Avenue, and N Acres Dr.  FCCU President Steve Schmitz and Crookston Branch Manager Dana Jonsson both spoke briefly during the event.

Schmitz said things have come a long way since he first received a call in 2017 about partnering with Agassiz Credit Union.  “Well, first of all, we are really excited to come to Crookston,” said Schmitz. “Steve Krueger called me just two years ago in the Spring of 2017 to ask about partnering.  We jumped at the opportunity, came down and met with their board probably a short week later.  At the time, we looked and thought this would be a great town to be in.  We committed to the members at a membership meeting a short time later to invest in a new facility, and here we are.  And just two short years later, things have come a long way.”

Jonsson said the staff is excited about how new technology can help the community of Crookston. “We are just getting ready, preparing ourselves for the move,” said Jonsson.  “We are excited to have state-of-the-art equipment, an ATM machine and all these new technologies to help the community of Crookston.”

Schmitz said construction will begin this summer and if the weather cooperates should be complete in the Spring of 2020. “This is our first endeavor into Minnesota,” said Schmitz.  “The first time we’ve broken ground at a site in Minnesota.  Let’s just say the upper Midwest winters whether on the North Dakota or Minnesota side don’t always cooperate.  We anticipate getting into the ground here shortly, sometime in June or July.  And in the building, I’d say late spring, maybe May or June on the later side, maybe as early as April.”
