FOSSTON USES STRONG SECOND HALF TO WIN OVER KELLIHER-NORTHOME 63-52

The Fosston Greyhounds used a big second half to get the win over the Kelliher-Northome Mustangs in the Section 8A Girls Basketball East Subsection Championship Game at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls. 

FIRST HALF-
In the first half, Kylee 
Hinkley hit a three for Kelliher-Northome to give the Mustangs an early 4-0 lead. Tessa Manecke hit a shot inside for Fosston to tie the game up at four. Lexi Mahlen for Fosston knocked down a three to put the Greyhounds up 7-6. Lexi Mahlen hit another triple for the Greyhounds to make it 12-8. Ella Thayer got a layup for Kelliher-Northome to tie it up at 12 apiece. Kate Thayer got a layup for the Mustangs as she tied the game at 15. Allison Lundin used a scoop shot for the Mustangs to give them a 20-17 lead. Kate Thayer got a layup off a turnover to give the Mustangs a five-point lead. Calli Burrack got an and one for Fosston to make it 24-20 with the Mustangs still in the lead. Lexi Mahlen got a tough shot to fall for the Greyhounds as she made it 28-25, but Kelliher-Northome led at the half. 

SECOND HALF-
To open the second half, Lexi Mahlen got a putback to fall for Fosston to make it 28-27 with the Mustangs still on top. Manecke got her bank shot to go, and it put Fosston in the lead at 31-30. Ella Thayer got an and one for the Mustangs to give them a 34-31 lead. Vanessa Johnson sunk a three for Fosston, and that gave the Greyhounds a 36-34 lead. Brynlea Mahlen drained a three for the Greyhounds, which put them up 39-34. Teagan Duppong got an offensive rebound and a putback for Fosston to give them a 41-34 lead. Lexi Mahlen got a short shot to make it a 43-35 game with Fosston in the lead. Lexi Mahlen hit a three to make it 48-37 with Fosston in the lead. Manecke got a layup to fall for the Greyhounds as they extended their lead to 51-37. Lexi Mahlen hit a three to extend the Fosston lead to make it 54-38. Charli Hallstrom got an and one for the Mustangs to cut the Fosston lead down to 57-47, but the Greyhounds lead was too big for Kelliher-Northome to come back. Fosston would take the victory 63-52 to advance to the Section 8A Championship Game. 

The Fosston Greyhounds improves to 28-2 on the year and will take on Kittson County Central on Friday night for the Section 8A Championship Game. Kelliher-Northome’s season comes to a close with a 25-4 record. The Mustangs seniors are Ella Thayer, Kenly Hallstrom, and Meleah Grundmeier.
