GO-KART RACING COMING TO CROOKSTON

Crookston City Councilman Bobby Baird’s granddaughter has been racing Go Kart for the past four years and Baird, along with members of the Forks Karting Association (Grand Forks) and Red River Kart Club (West Fargo) have organized a winter race at Red River Valley Winter Shows Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2.
The event has been funded out of pocket by the organizers as a trial run, and if the Crookston event is successful it could lead to four or five additional race events in Crookston this winter.  The races will run in four classes, meaning fun for all ages five and up.  The rookie class will run with youth ages five to seven, the junior 1 class for youth ages eight to 11, the junior 2 class for youth ages 12 to 15 and the adult class for 15 and up.   “We’re going to open the doors up at 8:00 a.m. with a pit meeting at 10:30 a.m.,” said Baird.  “We’ll have hot laps following the pit meeting and get to racing at 12:00 p.m. both days.”
There will be three sessions of racing on Saturday, followed by two sessions on Sunday.  Cost for a driver is $30 per session, while tickets to watch the racing are $10 a day.
Baird says racers are coming from Grand Forks, Fargo and as far away as Iowa.  The event organizers will transform the show floor beginning at 5:00 p.m. Friday, into a hard dirt track prior to Saturday mornings door opening.
