GOLDEN EAGLES LOSE A PAIR TO NO. 12 AUGUSTANA

Augustana used a high-powered offense and strong pitching to sweep Minnesota Crookston softball in a pair of site-reversed games on Sunday. Augustana won 9-1 and 18-3 in NSIC play.

The Golden Eagles fall to 14-31 (5-15 NSIC).

Game One

The Vikings would score three early runs, as Torri Chute would hit a two-run home run and Mary Pardo would continue her strong season, hitting a solo shot, giving the Vikings a 3-0 lead.

Augustana would score four runs in the third, another run in the fourth, and another pair in the fifth.

Jenna Parfeniuk (R-So., 1B/P, Winnipeg, Manitoba) would hit her first career home run, a solo shot, giving the Golden Eagles a run.

Minnesota Crookston would fall by a score of 9-1.

The Golden Eagles had three hits in the game, including the home run from Parfeniuk. Sydney Huwe (Fr., UT, Carver, Minn.) and Dana Zarn (Jr., UT, Winnipeg, Manitoba) added a hit as well.

Evie Stuck (Fr., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) fell to 7-14 on the season. Stuck went four innings, giving up eight runs while striking out three Viking hitters.

Game Two

Augustana would jump out to a quick 9-0 lead in the top of the first inning and would continue to add on, scoring 18 runs in game two.

The Golden Eagles would continue to show fight. In the bottom of the fifth, Hannah Macias (Sr., OF, West Covina, Calif.) would double in Parfeniuk. Huwe would get the Golden Eagles their second run of the game on an RBI groundout and Gabriella Blondahl (Jr., OF, Duluth, Minn.) would single in Macias, making it 18-3, which would be the final.

The Golden Eagles collected six hits in the game, including one each from Blomdahl, Zarn, and Macias. Alina Avalos (Jr., IF, Riverside, Calif.), Shaelyn Grant (So., C/OF, Grand Junction, Colo.), and Emerson Thompson (Fr., 1B/C, Lincoln, Neb.) also collected a hit.

Nicole DeDen (Fr., P, Mission Viejo, Calif.) picked up the loss in the circle.

What’s Next

The Golden Eagles will travel to Wayne State College to take on the Wildcats in an NSIC doubleheader tomorrow afternoon. The first pitch is set for 12 PM.
