GOODRIDGE/GRYGLA DEFEATS STEPHEN-ARGYLE 63-59

The Stephen-Argyle Storm headed up to Grygla to take on the Goodridge/Grygla Chargers in a Friday afternoon contest that the Chargers would get a 63-59 win over the Storm. 

FIRST HALF-
The game would start off with Goodridge/Grygla’s Lewis Jones burying a three to give Goodridge/Grygla an early lead. Caden Pangac, for Stephen-Argyle, would respond a little later with an and-one as he was fouled inside on his shot. Later in the half, Jones would continue scoring as he could spin to his spot and put in the mid-range jump shot, forcing Stephen-Argyle to call a timeout, trailing 21-16. As play continued, Sawyer Jacobson for Goodridge/Grygla would give it a go from three to put the Chargers up 30-22. Later in the half, Jones would strike from the outside once again. Firstly, with two minutes left in the half, he put the Chargers up 35-29 before hitting another three-pointer to give Goodridge/Grygla a 38-31 lead and force Stephen-Argyle to call timeout again, late in the half. Jones would finish the first half with 20 points and four three-point field goals. Stephen-Argyle would answer Jones’ threes but would trail the Chargers at the half, 40-34.

 

SECOND HALF –
In the second half, Goodridge/Grygla would utilize Jones’s scoring abilities again, but this time from inside the arc, as he would help build the Chargers’ lead to 47-38. Jones would convert on a three-point play as he was fouled inside and converted on the free throw to put Goodridge/Grygla up 52-42 as the Storm had to call a timeout. As the second half went on, Stephen-Argyle would battle back with Carsen Safranski coming off the bench to hit a three, as did Blaine Smith to help cut into the Chargers lead. With four minutes to go, sophomore Raydon Woinarowicz delivered two pressure-packed free throws to make it 57-53, Goodridge/Grygla on top.
With two minutes to go, Blake Rychlock for Goodridge/Grygla was able to put up a tough shot in the lane and got it to fall to make it 59-55. Stephen-Argyle was able to tie it up at 59 with under a minute to go, but it would be Rychlock once again on the offensive end who would make an impact. Off of an offensive rebound, Rychlock was able to bank in a short-ranged shot from underneath to give Goodridge/Grygla a 61-59 lead with 35 seconds left. Rychlock would have 12 of his 18 points in the second half. Stephen-Argyle called a timeout with 20 seconds left and drew up a play to attempt a three-point shot for the lead, but it fell short. The Storm fouled, but they were one foul short of the bonus. With nine seconds left, Spencer Coan for Goodridge/Grygla was fouled and headed to the free throw line for a one-and-one opportunity. The lefty stepped up and drained both free throws to give the Chargers a 63-59 lead. Stephen-Argyle attempted a three late, which didn’t fall, and Goodridge/Grygla would get the win at home, 63-59. 

Stephen-Argyle drops to 1-6 on the season and will take on Climax-Fisher on Thursday. Goodridge/Grygla improves to 4-2 on the season and will take on Badger-Greenbush-Middle River on Thursday.
