Grand Opening Event and Pancake Feed for Highland Inclusive Playground is Saturday October 12

Highland Elementary School will hold a grand opening celebration for the Highland Inclusive Playground on Saturday, October 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A free-will pancake breakfast will also be held at the same time to help raise money for the project.

Fencing around the park has been installed earlier than anticipated and the playground is ready for the community to enjoy. “We had thought that the fencing wasn’t going to come for about three weeks, but we got notification today that they will be coming next Monday to do the fencing, and they actually poured the sidewalk for the entrance this Morning Thursday at twelve o’clock,” said Highland School Principal Chris Trostad. “We hope the fence is all up and finished, and then the playground will be completely done by Saturday.”
The fence Highland has been waiting on separates traffic from the playground during drop-off and pick-up, serving as a safety barrier for the kids.

The Grand Opening Event will include a Pancake Breakfast with free-will donations as funds are still being raised to pay for the playground. The breakfast will be inside just in case weather is a factor.  “We need to make sure we get enough volunteers, so that’s kind of right now we’re checking to make sure we have enough volunteers to help with that,” says Trostad. “Kids would just be able to go outside and play.”

If you want to volunteer for the event, Principal Trostad said they still need more volunteers.
