Hayden Ricard wins Crookston Public Schools District Spelling Bee

The Crookston Public Schools held their annual Crookston Public Schools District Spelling Bee on Wednesday afternoon in the Crookston High School Auditorium. 15 competitors, ranging from fifth to eighth grades, took part in Wednesday’s Spelling Bee with Hayden Ricard the winner of the competition.

This year’s competitors were

5th grade, Adam Burnette, Delante Cardoza, Micah Pyles, and Dreshawn Robertson
6th grade, Devin Gudmundson, Liam Hofeldt, Cora Jackson, and Odin Prudhomme
7th grade, Harper Hann, Melody Ortiz, Hayden Ricard, and Arley Sinks
8th grade, Marshall Hanson, Lily Olmstead, and Dominick Tronnes

The Announcer/Pronouncer for the competition was Sue Wagner, and the Judges were Lacia Hanson and Amy Luckow.

The winner of this year’s District Spelling Bee was Hayden Ricard.  The word that moved Hayden through to the Regional Spelling Bee was RELEGATED. Hayden has advanced to the Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held on February 5, at Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls. Hayden said he had been preparing for the Spelling Bee for a few years now. As for his excitement about moving on to the Regional competition, he said, “Oh, I’m very excited.”
