HUGO’S CUSTOMERS DONATE $697 TO THE POLK COUNTY SALVATION ARMY

Crookston Hugo’s Family Marketplace Store Manager Bob O’Halloran presented a check this week to Polk County Salvation Army.  O’Halloran said Hugo’s customers donated all the money for the fundraiser. “We did a campaign back in November and customers donated money at the tills,” said O’Halloran.  “All the money that we collected came from the customers, nothing from corporate.  But our great customers donated $697 this time around.”

Margee Keller, Polk County Salvation Army Service Unit Chairperson, said the money collected by the Polk County Salvation Army stays in Crookston and is used for services to people in need that other agencies aren’t always able to provide. “It’s wonderful,” said Keller.  “It’s more monies that we can utilize for our community.  We bring it all back into the community and it stays in Polk County.  Some of it’s for housing. If people need to go to a medical appointment, we’ll pay for gas.  Sometimes we’ll pay for prescriptions, groceries, if they have a fire, we’ll buy them the necessities to get started like either their hygiene products or their clothing if they’ve lost a home. We always say we’re the last resort.  There are so many agencies, especially in town, that are covered by the United Way that provide a lot of other services.  So, we provide a lot of services that no one else will do.”
