KROX INTRODUCTION OF NEW TEACHERS- PART 3

This is the final installment of new teachers and district hires from KROX. This story includes two hires from Crookston Middle School: Social Studies Teacher Brandon Lee and Science Teacher Brad Hubred.

BRANDON LEE

Brandon Lee is a Watertown, South Dakota native entering his first year as a teacher. Previously, Lee worked at an automotive dealership as an administrator, title clerk, and paraprofessional in his previous school district.

Lee attended South Dakota State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in history and received two master’s degrees, one being in Adult Higher Education and the other being in Secondary Education. Lee claims to be looking forward to his teaching career and to having his classroom.

Although Lee resided in South Dakota for many years, he did spend time in the Crookston School District from the time he was in fourth grade through eighth grade, and that drew some attention to Lee ultimately applying for the position. “This was somewhere I had lived before; I have family here,” said Lee, “This just so happened to be something I was looking for with a teaching position, and I thought to myself, ‘Why don’t I see if Crookston has anything’ and they happened to have a social studies position.”

Currently, Lee teaches sixth-grade Minnesota Studies and eighth-grade Geography and Human Culture courses.

BRAD HUBRED

Brad Hubred is the most experienced hire throughout the middle school, entering his twenty-first year of teaching. Hubred is a Moose Lake native, where he previously taught fifth and sixth-grade science at Moose Lake Elementary School. Crookston Middle School has hired Hubred as the middle school science teacher.

Hubred graduated from Bemidji State University, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education with an emphasis in middle school science. Hubred came to Crookston with his family, in search of a fresh start. “My wife and I honestly were just throwing darts,” said Hubred, “We wanted to leave Moose Lake and find somewhere different and find somewhere new that was between four and five hours away my hometown.”

Hubred gained an interest in education and science, specifically from his high school science teacher, whom he referred to as a role model. “My high school science teacher. It’s been pretty neat to follow in his footsteps back in my hometown for many years,” said Hubred, “Science has always been a passion of mine, so to have that teacher that inspired me to get into it really pushed me and I’ve been kind of living out my dreams through him.”

Hubred also comes to Crookston with coaching experience. Previously, Hubred served as a head coach and assistant coach for Moose Lake and Little Falls. He also served as the head coach for girls’ hockey in Little Falls and assistant coach for boys’ hockey in Moose Lake. Hubred stated that coaching could be possible in his future in Crookston, but he and his family need a chance to settle in.
