HORSEBACK RIDE RAISES MONEY FOR VETERANS

On June 10, 16 riders mounted their horses and set out on a mission to honor veterans and raise funds for an outreach program. That morning, the riders covered 10 miles, and in the afternoon, seven rode another 12 miles. The Veterans Ride was hosted by Walk By Faith, a faith-based therapeutic activities program operated by Travis and Kristen Schwartz on their ranch near Fisher. Each mile was sponsored by a donor and marked with a poster with the name and photo of a veteran. One person read a biography of the veteran being recognized. The ride raised $2,450, which will be given to a veterans outreach program. This was the first time since 2019 that the Schwartz family arranged a Veterans Ride.

Among the seven riders who completed the 22-mile Veterans Ride on June 10 were Deb Altepeter of Climax and Sharon Slebiss of Moorcroft, Wyoming. The sisters rode to honor their father, Jim Altepeter of Crookston, and family friend Jerry Bittner of Esko. Jim was in the Navy, and Bittner was in the Army. Both men served in Vietnam.
