Lyle Evenson – Obit

Lyle Evenson, age 80, of Winger, MN, died Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, ND.

Lyle Evenson was born on November 9, 1939, to Edwin and Belinda (Mork) Evenson. Lyle, along with his siblings, Allen and Beverly, grew up just outside of Winger on the family farm. Lyle graduated from McIntosh High School on May 29, 1958. In 1963, Lyle joined the army and served two years as a machinist. He was designated as a master marksman and sharpshooter. He made lifelong friends while he was in the army and often talked about his service with great pride.

After completing his time in the army, Lyle returned to the family farm to work. On November 1, 1975, Lyle and Carol (Lindner) were united in marriage. They have three children together, Christy, Tiffaney, and Evan.

Lyle farmed most of his life. During the winter, he sometimes worked at Dee Inc. or Winger Implement. Lyle loved farming but in 1998 he made the hard decision to retire. After that time, he worked several years for Strata in Detroit Lakes, MN. Lyle always seemed to have a project he was working on, whether it was fixing the neighbor’s tractor or fixing things around the farm. He was always a hard worker and gave his best in whatever work he was doing.

After he retired, Lyle occupied his time with restoring antique horse-drawn farm equipment that was on the farm that his father once used. He even sold some equipment to a local Amish farmer and found great joy in seeing the equipment being used.

Lyle is survived by his children: Christy (Brandon) Moulds of Fisher, MN, Tiffaney (Chris) Primeau of East Grand Forks, MN, and Evan (Amanda) Evenson of Winger, MN; three grandchildren: Nicholas Johnson, Mason Primeau, and Lyvia Primeau; sister, Beverly (Waldo) Thompson of Thief River Falls, MN; brother, Allen (Jane) Evenson of Billings, MT; and several nieces and nephews.

Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Belinda Evenson; and great-nephew, John Murphy.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Monday, September 28, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Storelvedalen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Winger, MN. All are welcome to attend and encouraged to bring a chair. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 27, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Anderson Family Funeral Home, Mahnomen, MN.
