Marion Shimpa – Obit

Marion Shimpa, age 82, of McIntosh and Erskine, MN, passed away on Tuesday, December 17th, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21st, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Bruce Blocker officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, December 20th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the church. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service, serving McIntosh, and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.
Marion Eleanore Ulrich Daughter of Ernest and Ida (Fellman) Ulrich was born December 20, 1936 at her home in Red Lake County, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm with her four brothers and beloved pets. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. She graduated Class of 1955 at the Plummer School.
Marion met the love of her life, Joe Shimpa in 1956 and they were married 6 months later in Red Lake Falls on September 24th, 1956. The couple first made their home in Crookston, MN. They later moved to Union Lake and also the Erskine area.
The couple’s firstborn son, Joe Ernest was born on 11/28/57 and died on 12/2/1957. Following this, the faithful couple welcomed three more sons: Jerry in 1958, Larry in 1960, and Scott in 1962.
Marion and Joe attended their first Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in 1962 and became life-long members of the organization. Marion spent several years in the dye kitchen demonstrating how to dye wool. In 2001 Marion was crowned Honorary Steam Queen- a title she was very honored and deserving to gain. Marion and Joe also attended several other steam shows around the region.
Marion worked at American Crystal Sugar Company in Crookston for several campaigns. She was also very active in her church. She was a beloved Sunday School and Wednesday School Teacher for years.
Most of all, Marion enjoyed time with her family. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Marion is survived by her sons, Jerry Shimpa of McIntosh, Larry Shimpa (Ethel) of Erskine; Daughter in Law Julie Shimpa of Erskine. Brother Jack (Pat) Ulrich, Litchfield, MN. Grandchildren, Joe (Jessica) Shimpa, Tiffany (Jon) Omundson, Travis Shimpa, Brian (April) Shimpa, and Andy (Angie) Shimpa. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and Friends.
Marion is preceded in death by her husband Joe, Parents Ernest and Ida, Infant Son Joe, Son Scott, Brothers Bill, Ed, and Ronnie.
