Come to the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council (NWMAC) Gallery in East Grand Forks at the Riverwalk Centre (movie theater mall) to see the new Parenthood Art Exhibit. This collection is meant to explore and celebrate parenthood and is open between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Art gathered has been created by northwest Minnesota artists that are related to parenthood through its very creation (made by parents and their children), art that involves parenthood in its content, functional art that lives in every day of parenthood, and art that cracks open parenthood—and childhood—just a little bit more.
Artist Therese Jacobson’s painting captures a scene with her daughter cooking with her granddaughter. Therese explained that this “is what parenting is all about. Children learn from involvement. This was a very meaningful, joyful and calm moment.”
Artists featured in the exhibit include Therese Jacobson of Alvarado, Trey Everett of Crookston, Susan Neufeld of Beltrami, Loreen Hanson of Thief River Falls, Jan Osborn of Thief River Falls, Paulette Christianson of Badger, Alicia Spilde of Karlstad, Peggy Brandon of Karlstad, Jill Levene of Warren, Irene Bertils of Crookston, Nick Reitzel of Karlstad, Barb Kotta of Warroad, and Kelsey Brateng of Thief River Falls.
The Parenthood Art Exhibit will be on display from May 5 through June 23 at the NWMAC Gallery at 211 DeMers Avenue, East Grand Forks, MN 56721 (located within the Riverwalk Artists Gallery.) The gallery hours are Friday–Saturday, 2:00–8:00 PM and Sunday, 2:00–5:00 PM. Before you make a special trip to East Grand Forks, just see this exhibit, double check that the gallery is open (email stephaniemolson@gmail.com).
There will be an artists’ reception held on Saturday, June 1 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. This is held in conjunction with the Art and Wine Walk. Light refreshments will be served. The Art and Wine Walk is located in downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. Participating businesses feature an artist showcasing their work while offering wine and appetizers. The Art and Wine Walk has a small participation cost if you want to attend the entire event. However, the public is welcome to come to the gallery to support the artists without choosing to participate in the official Art and Wine Walk. Take advantage of the opportunity to view the art on display and for sale at the Riverwalk Gallery. In addition, Riverwalk Artists is currently looking for members.
