PERHAM CRUISES PAST PIRATE GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Perham Yellowjackets scored 23 of the first 25 points and cruised the rest of the way as they cruised to a 72-36 victory over the Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team in a Section 8AA matchup at the Crookston High School Gymnasium.

FIRST HALF-
Perham had two strong games over the Christmas break while Crookston struggled in their two games, and both streaks carried over into the first game after the break as Perham outscored Crookston 21-2 in the first 10 minutes of the game. All five Perham starters scored in the first 10 minutes, with UMC commit Willow Thiel (6’0 senior forward) leading the way with six points, Cora Grismer added five, Kennedy Pilgrim chipped in four, Ryleigh Mickelson added a three-pointer and Kaia Anderson added a basket in the run.
Crookston finally stopped the run with an Isabel Smith three-pointer to get within a 23-5 deficit with 7:54 left in the half. Perham continued to dominate the rest of the half and took a 48-10 lead into halftime, led by Thiel’s 16 points.
SECOND HALF –
Perham’s Thiel started the half with a basket, and Crookston’s Chloe Boll responded with a basket. After Perham’s Kaia Anderson scored, Chloe Boll answered with another basket. Perham’s Grismer responded with a basket before Chloe Boll answered with another basket, and Perham led 54-16 two minutes into the half. Perham continued to build on its lead and took a 67-20 lead with 11:30 minutes remaining. Perham went to the bench and played everybody the rest of the game, and with nine minutes left in the game, the clock went to running time.
The final nine minutes flew by, and Crookston took advantage of the Perham starters on the bench. Trailing 70-28, Crookston finished the last four minutes strong with an Emma Gunderson basket, a Grace Boll three-pointer, and a Gunderson. after a Perham basket, Grace Boll added a basket to get within a free throw, and that is how the game ended.
Crookston only made 4 of 13 from the free throw line, while Perham was only 8 of 17.

 

Crookston drops to 2-7 on the year and will host Sacred Heart on Thursday. Perham improves to 10-2.
