PIRATE BASEBALL FINISHES REGULAR SEASON WITH A WIN OVER LPA

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to come from behind to beat the Lake Park-Audubon Raiders 13-10 in the regular season finale at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

FIRST INNING
The Raiders first two batters walked to lead off the game. The next batter hit into a fielder’s choice, and Crookston got the out at second base. Fee settled down and struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam.
Crookston’s lead-off batter Carter Coauette walked before Blake Melsa doubled to score a run for a 1-0 lead. Alex Longoria followed with another double to score a run. A pitch hit Ethan Boll, and after an out Jack Doda walked. Teagen Lubinski reached on a fielder’s choice, and Jackson Demarais walked to load the bases for a 3-0 lead. 

SECOND INNING
LPA’s first two batters were retired before the next two batters walked. With runners at second and third base, the next batter popped out to shallow left, and Boll made a tough catch to retire the Raiders.
Crookston’s Coauette led off the second inning with an infield single and stole second base, and was stranded as the next three batters were retired.

THIRD INNING
The Raiders drew three walks in the inning and had one out. The next two batters popped out to the shortstop, and the threat was over.
Crookston’s Doda reached on an error before stealing second and third base. Jackson Demarais walked and stole second base, and runners were at second and third with two outs. The next batter struck out, and Crookston led 3-0 after three innings.

FOURTH INNING
LPA led off the inning with a single. After two outs, the next batter was hit by a pitch before a triple that scored two runs. The next batter singled to score the game tieing run. After an error and a wild pitch, another run scored, and the Raiders took a 4-3 lead.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.

FIFTH INNING
LPA singled to start the inning before the next two batters were retired. The next batter reached on an error before a fly out to right field, and the Raiders were retired.
Crookston had a threat in the bottom of the inning when George Widman walked, and Doda singled with one out. The next two batters were retired, and the Raiders led 4-3.

SIXTH INNING
LPA broke the game open in the top of the inning. The first batter reached on an error. After an out, the next batter singled, and after a walk, the next batter singled to score two runs for a 6-3 lead. After a Raider struck out, the next batter walked before a single that scored two more runs for an 8-3 lead. Another run scored on an error for a 9-3 lead.
Crookston responded in a big way in the bottom of the inning when Greyson Ecker singled and advanced to third on an error on the left fielder. Coauette had an infield single that scored a run to bring the Pirates within a 9-4 deficit. Melsa walked and stole second base before Longoria hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score another run. Boll followed with a hard ground ball through the right side of the infield to score another run to get within a 9-6 deficit. Boll advanced to third base on an error by the right fielder. Crookston kept the big winning going after a strikeout for the second out of the game. Doda singled to score a run to get within a 9-7 deficit. Gavyn Hlucny reached on a walk, and Demarais was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ecker reached on an error that allowed two more runs to score to tie the game at 9-9. Coauette walked to load the bases before Melsa walked to score a run for a 10-9 lead. Longoria walked to score another run for an 11-9 lead. Two more runs scored on a wild pitch for a 13-9 lead. 

SEVENTH INNING
LPA put together a seventh-inning rally when the first batter walked. The next batter struck out before another batter walked, and runners were at first and second. The next batter singled to score a run to get within a 13-10 deficit. The Raiders tried to steal a base but was caught stealing on a nice throw from the catcher Ecker. After a walk, the Pirates caught another Raider trying to steal second base for the third out of the inning to end the game with a 13-10 Crookston victory.

Crookston ends the regular season with a 4-14 record and will open up the Section 8AA baseball tournament on the road. It will likely be at Roseau on Tuesday.
Lake Park-Audubon ends the regular season with a 1-14 record.
