BOYS Results –
The Crookston Pirate Boys Golf team is in second place after shooting a solid 331 and senior Jack Ricord turned in his best career round with a 76 to lead the team.  “331 was a good score for us today and a little better than our average,” said Pirate Boys Coach Kofoed. “All-in-all it was better than our previous rounds here in Bemidji this year.”
Ricord was hitting the ball well off the tee, his chipping was solid and his putting was great. “I made a lot of putts I probably shouldn’t have,” said Ricord with a big smile on his face after his round.  Coach Kofoed said everything was rolling for Ricord. “Everything was going well and he avoided any big numbers,” said Coach Kofoed. “He had a chip in and made a couple of putts from 20 to 30 feet and he is pumped, as he should be.  He has put himself in a great position after the first round and in the position, you want to be.”
Trey Christopherson shot an 80 for the second-best score on the team and is in the hunt for a trip to state. “Trey averages around 82 on the year and has been consistent all year long.  He had a tough stretch today with a few tough holes,” said Coach Kofoed. “He finished his round strong and if he shoots another 80 tomorrow he will give himself a chance.”
Brock Heppner had a solid round with an 83 and is in the mix. “He found a way out of trouble on a couple of holes and on one hole he was way off on another hole’s fairway and from 217 yards out hit it on the green and got a birdie,” said Coach Kofoed. “He was a member of this course last year and he is in a position to make a run tomorrow.”
Quinn Westlake and Jaxon Wang had a tough round and will look to improve on Tuesday. “Quinn has golfed pretty well yesterday on this course and just didn’t get it going today,” said Coach Kofoed. “Jaxon had a couple of rough holes and that hurt him today.  He was able to settle down towards late and that was nice to see.”
Crookston will try to make up a 20 stroke deficit on Tuesday and will have Jack Ricord, Trey Christopherson and Brock Heppner trying to make a run on the individual side. “Having three people having the chance to give themselves an opportunity tomorrow is what you like,” said Coach Kofoed. “We will have all five guys trying to improve their score and hopefully we can make a run as a team, if not we have three guys with a good chance too.”

GIRLS Results-
The Crookston Pirate Girls Golf team didn’t golf their best round of the year and are in fourth place, but they have three golfers that could make a run at the top 10 if they have a good round on Tuesday. “There were no surprises today because, with a team like Detroit Lakes, we were all playing for second and sending individuals to state,” said Pirate Coach Jeff Perreault.
The top Pirate was Dani Boyle shot a 92 to lead the Pirates and a couple bad holes hurt her in the first round. “You don’t want a couple of bad holes to ruin the round and she settled down and turned in a 92,” said Coach Perreault. “She gave herself a chance to go to state if she golfs like she is capable tomorrow.”
Joslynn Leach shot a 94 and was able to put a couple of bad holes behind her. “She has a good mentality and worries about the next shot instead of what happened on the last shot,” said Coach Perreault. “She is capable of shooting better and if she can get into the 80’s tomorrow she will have a shot.”
Bailey Cameron had one of her better rounds with a 95.  “95 for her is a really nice round and she played well today,” said Coach Perreault. “She played one of her best rounds with a little bit of pressure on her and that was great to see.  I am excited for her tomorrow.”
Hannah Street had the fourth best score for the Pirates with a 97. “I think if you would have told her she would have a 97 that she would take it,” said Coach Perreault. “It is a good score for Hannah and hopefully she can have another solid round tomorrow.”
Sophia Rezac and Hannah Brouse both shot 106’s.  “Those two have been a great part of the team this year and went out and battled and most importantly, they gained some experience,” said Kofoed. “To have our five and six spots shooting a 106 is pretty good.  We are looking for some more improvement tomorrow and we are excited to see what tomorrow brings.”

The second and final round of the Section 8AA Golf tournament will start at 8:00 a.m. at the Bemidji Town and Country Course on the north shores of Lake Bemidji.
